China well knows even if they won’t admit it that they need us a lot more than we them. America is the worlds biggest consumer to the tune of us consuming 25% of the entire worlds output of goods and services.

What we buy from China, and we are by far their best and biggest customer we can buy from other nations. It may take a bit of time for other Nations to ramp up production too fill the void but it will happen in short order.
There is little China can do to resist the pressure of a boycott by us of their products. They have no effective leverage against us that does not involve damaging them more than it damages us.

There are several action the US can take short of going to war, and the Chinese will swallow their pride and accept them and move off those islands.
I would start with 100 IRBMs with nukes in Japan, Korea and the Philippines. And back it up with 5 squadrons of F-15 and F-22 in Japan and PI. AND a permanent US Navy Patrol.
It’s forgotten about the Chinese Nationalist/Taiwan islands which are right on the coast of Red China which were the subject of debate between Nixon and Kennedy during their debates in 1960.

Big war was averted and the islands are still held by Taiwan. China has a vastly larger nuclear arsenal then at that time. Today’s American nuclear war civil defense sheltering program is all but gone. Strange that so many American leaders are looking for new reasons to go to war with China as well as Russia.
As for myself, my North East US family does not have a backyard fallout shelter such as my parent once built. They had about two weeks supplies in it. If today I’d try to have several years worth.
Reportedly our leaders have much more elaborate bunkers than what their predecessors had back in the 1950’s and 60’s. It much easier to spend other people’s money as well as their lives.
