I read somewhere that the time players are actually moving during a game is very small.

I think Goodell made the GIGANTIC mistake of allowing Kaepernick's protests to continue after that last preseason game in San Diego. Goodell should have immediately quashed those protests and the NFL wouldn't be suffering a ratings loss like it did.

I wouldn't be surprised that during Super Bowl Week, Goodell announces he is stepping down as Commissioner, probably under pressure from owners who saw the "Shield" tarnished by Goodell's many ill-advised actions of recent years.

“I read somewhere that the time players are actually moving during a game is very small.”

I recall reading a similar article sometime in the last couple of months. The article reported on actual average playing times in college games. Playing time was counted only from the snap of the ball until the whistle was blown to end the play. The average result showed only eight minutes of actual playing time per game.

Really?

Yep as soon as he started it I said bye bye NFL, and haven’t seen a game since.

DVR the game, and watch every play in an hour and a half including bathroom breaks.

Actually you can go to Yahoo, and they have nice summaries of the game in about 5 minutes.

One of the biggest SB draws are the commercials. The internet has made watching it unnecessary for those now.

I’ve been shouting into the void on how this effects college football for weeks. Underclassman’s deadline for declaring early for the draft has just passed a few minutes ago. Part of their decision on whether to return to their school or declare early has to do with money. This season the sinking NFL ratings and money is a major factor as those who go pro now may not see any downside this draft, but that may not be so in 2018. I’m assured the NFL will still have plenty of money then but I maintain that the sponsors will reign in irresponsible spending and want their bang for their buck. Waiting a year may cost a player millions. I agree that there will still be dollars there but not as much as this upcoming season if trends continue. Remember that with lib thinking, you have to hit them upside the head with a shovel several times and repeat until they notice that there is a problem. usually they get it too late.

They beat them - I wouldn’t call it a slaughter.

With it likely being Brady vs. Rodgers, it ain’t gonna be a flop.

Football used to be an America pastime. This year Americans took a knee instead.

I liked how South Park treated this. They had JJ Abrams come up with the solution by having announcers say, "Will you now stand, sit, or kneel for our National Anthem".

Right there with you, there were a few teams (owners) who told their players you BETTER stand for the Anthem

I swore that if my Falcons showed any inkling of disrespect I would give up watching.

Fortunately they didn't and I was rewarded with an exciting season.

You are right. I used to be a Die-hard Pats fan...no more. I haven't seen a single game this year and won't be watching the not so super toilet bowl starring "spirit cooking" lady gag gag.

I am literally ashamed of people here in Free Republic that claim to care about America and retaining traditional American values for themselves, their families and their grand children, who are still supporting, watching and hyping the NFL.

How can you continue to support and watch the NFL when the NFL has "proudly and loudly" become a hatefilled, PC Anti-American institution? They are spitting in our collective face and you're still letting them do it to you... for a silly game that in reality means nothing.

The NFL as an organization literally HATES US AND EVERYTHING WE STAND FOR!

The NFL commissioner, the owners, the managers, the coaches, the staff AND THE THUG-PLAYERS have all tacitly thrown their support behind: those who hate America; those who hate Christians, those who promote sexual pervervion while opposing traditional families; the "kill whitey", hate America, hate Americans, hate our National Anthem, hate law enforcement, hate our service men, "kill the cops", black-racist - "Only Black Lives Matter", anarchists.

This is exactly WHAT the NFL, and it's "enabler" NFL sponsors represent, have willfully chosen to become and WHO they tacitly support.

If you honestly look at the above list: the NFL despises, America; you and everything you believe in and hold dear.

You can make excuses that "it's just a game"; "it's only harmless'entertainment'"; "lighten up, I just want to have some fun and enjoy the game"; "yeah, the rest of the league is bad, but I'm only watching because 'my team' is playing"...

Tell those excuses to yourself, to your family, to your friends, your children and grandchildren when they see NFL thug-players spitting in America's and your face when they are "taking the knee" and when "spirit cooking" Lady gag gag conducts her morally corrupting half-time "show". *Look the utterly heinous, despicable, demonic practices involved in "spirit cooking" up online: This is what the NFL and Lady gag gag want to expose you and your family to!

The only way the NFL or any of this will ever change is if we unitedly take a stand against it by continuing to boycott the NFL, its "enabler" sponsors and buying any NFL merchandise. Because ultimately the only thing the NFL; the owners, managers, coaches, thug-players and sponsors care about is: THE MONEY.

The NFL doesn't care about America, traditional American values, or you. All they really care about is the money... starve them of that and they will either have a (much needed) "change of heart" and reform back to the very principles the NFL was established upon and which had once made it a great "national institution"; or die.

College football isn’t any better. The abuse of scholarships given to pro-wanna-be’s, athletic department budgets, outrageous ticket prices, anti-America professors, anti-America campus policies, etc. etc. etc and much at the taxpayer’s expense. Who in their right minds would want to send their sons and daughters into these liberal bastions? Well, I guess we know. . . It is sad.

An 8% drop is a start, but it’s nowhere near enough. I hope to see the slide continue or even increase next year if they don’t put an end to this nonsense. The good news is that the NFL has a lot of fixed costs and preset revenue, so that was much more than an 8% drop in profits.

Next year could be interesting, particularly if prepaid season tickets lose their appeal. Next year could be interesting if “football” stops being part of the general conversation where people think they have to watch to engage in small talk.

The only thing that saved the NFL ratings-wise this season was the success of the Cowboys.

Yep, and now that they are out of the playoffs, the ratings will sink again.
