A former Rhode Island state lawmaker has agreed to plead guilty to fraud charges, becoming the third former House member in 11 days to be charged with criminal conduct and prompting the U.S. attorney to decry the states political culture.
The charges filed against Democrat Ray Gallison in federal court Monday include mail fraud, wire fraud, aggravated identity theft and filing false tax returns. Gallison, an attorney, acknowledged taking hundreds of thousands of dollars from a dead mans estate and other misconduct.
This says something about our political culture here, which I think should get our attention, U.S. Attorney Peter Neronha said during a news conference announcing the charges and plea deal.
He listed a long string of local and state public officials his office has prosecuted and sent to prison, including former House Speaker Gordon Fox.

Such a lot of corruption for such a small state.............
Last time I was in Rhode Island, some big politician had his office raided by FBI. Speaker of the house maybe.
What’s the population there, about 500? And that’s after the Great White fire decimated the gene pool.
They don’t have crap on ILL politicians...they are light weights.
I was in the USMC with a guy from RI.
SNOB......................
There’s counties bigger than Rhode Island...............
Rhode Island was created because the Mafia needed its own state.
Just trying to keep up with the Massholes I guess.
They all moved to NH...................
A clinton state
Harding County NM is twice as big as RI and only has 700 people. 26 of NM's 33 counties are bigger than Harding.
Yet RI has 2 senators and 2 representatives and population just over a million.
San Bernadino County in CA, is 20x the size and has over 2 million people.............
Can’t sell what you ain’t got.
Fox was elected Speaker on February 11, 2010 as the first openly gay Rhode Island man to hold that office. Fox resigned from the Speakership on the evening of March 22, 2014 following an FBI raid on his Smith Hill office and his home on Providence's East Side. The FBI found Fox to have stolen $108,000 in campaign contributions and accepted $52,000 in bribes. He is currently serving his sentence at Canaan U.S. Penitentiary in Waymart, Pennsylvania.

I find it fascinating that somehow they all seem to wear the same suit.... :)
That brings up a point. ANY public employee convicted of a felony should be summarily fired from his job. This includes employees at the highest level, to the President!
