Trump will be barred from speaking in Parliament

LONDON — House of Commons Speaker John Bercow has announced that he intends to block US President Donald Trump from addressing Parliament when Trump visits the UK later this year.

It is customary for visiting presidents to address MPs and members of the House of Lords in Westminster Hall when making state visits to Britain.

As speaker of the House of Commons, however, Bercow is one of three people who has the authority to block visiting figures from doing this.

The speaker said on Monday afternoon that addressing Parliament was an "earned honour" and not an invitation that came automatically with a state visit.

He said:

"What I will say is this. An address by a foreign leader to both Houses of Parliament is not an automatic right. It is an earned honour. Moreover, there are many precedents for state visits to take place to our country which do not include an address to both Houses of Parliament. That's the first point.

"In relation to Westminster Hall, there are three key holders to Westminster Hall: the speaker of the House of Commons, the speaker of the House of Lords and the lord great chamberlain. Ordinarily we are able to work by consensus and the hall would be used for a purpose such as an address or another purpose by agreement of the three key holders.

"I must say to the honourable gentleman, to all who signed his early day motion and to others with strong views about this matter on either side of the argument, that before the imposition of the migrant ban I would myself have been strongly opposed to an address by President Trump in Westminster Hall. After the imposition of the migrant ban by President Trump I am even more strongly opposed to an address...

The Left takes such delight in engaging in these little cheap shots at our President, even if they are pointless and come across as childish. But that’s Leftism.

Did anyone ask if Trump even wanted to speak? That’s just like lib designers saying they wouldn’t dress Melania when they were never approached.

We beat their pants off once. Keep it up and we’ll do it again.

They can retire that old saying about the sun never setting on the British Empire.

We will be “more even” when we wipe out Buckingham Palace, compensating us for when they burnt down our White House.

These trips are only for show. Cancel the trip and the negotiation with diplomats and representative will be enough.

The Left wants to the opportunity to snub Trump and stage rallies and create incidents where the optics and narrative can depict him as an unpopular cartoon figure.

All Trump has to say is he needs to get down to business and these visits are just fluff and not cost effective.

"Speaking within Parliament is a rare honour, the highest honour we can offer. In the past we have hosted speeches from leaders in equality, justice and human rights from Mandela to Obama to Aung San Suu Kyi. Trump is not fit to shine their shoes.

Translation: "We only allow communists and crypto communists to speak."

Bercow just committed ‘political suicide’

That's doubtful. CSPAN had the whole Parliament meeting on last night. They were horrid little creatures whining about everything Trump.

Trump should just rent a place nearby. Invite all Prime Minister and all the MPs who voted in favor of letting Trump speak.

Boom, he gets to speak with a friendly audience and will have a much more productive meeting.

Maybe Trump can go all glitz and glam. Rent a place with his own money and have a five star dinner with some entertainment after the speaking is finished.

President Trump should order the DOD to buy a couple of billion dollars worth of tea on the open market thus driving up the afternoon price for the Brits.

I understand the queen retains the authority to dismiss Parliament and call for new elections. Not used but still exists.

The UK is California without the nice weather. The British are fags.

Wasn't "Being British" a euphemism for being a homosexual?

I just seen on Nigel Farage’s twitter that he said this Bercow is an idiot and he has no power to say anything...

It was also mentioned on Pres. Trump’s twitter that Farage gave Bercow a piece of his mind...

Ut Oh...bye bye Bercow!!!

"Trump’s in good company. George Washington was barred from speaking at Parliament too."

Franklin had to actually stand there and listen to these insufferable fools berate him.

Amazing that such a nation can alternate from virtuous to absurd stupidity so regularly.

The LibDems and Labour wonder why the Tories are eating their lunch.

Trump’s migrant ban isn’t unpopular in Britain.

Yes, and Obama should not have been given the honour of speaking in Westminster Hall. That is meant to be a very singular honour for those seen as statesmen for the ages, and it reflects the ridiculous near worship of him in certain circles - that same worship that gave him a Nobel Peace Prize before he’d even had a chance to do anything.

And it’s now helped to create this mess. Because it would allow the press to turn even a speech by President Trump at the Banqueting Hall or Royal Gallery (prestigious locations in their own right - President Reagan and President Clinton spoke in the Royal Gallery) into a snub.

This is a snub because of Bercow’s comments. But just the location would not have been. He’s chosen to be deliberately offensive.

An English Jew with a death-wish, rather welcoming muslim immigration over self-preservation? WTF is wrong with these types?
