Half of college students believe their student loans will be forgiven after graduation, according to a recent poll. LendEDU, “a private firm that connects students and their families with student loans and loan refinancing,” conducted a survey that found 49.8 percent of students believe the government would forgive their student loans after graduation, the New York Post reported.

Despite what these students believe, there are actually a limited number of instances where the government can forgive student loans.

Non-profits caused this.
Some of OFA groups did this as part of their recruiting.
Now that the $$$ and DOJ protection is gone, so has the free education.

OUR Education SYSTEM is Antiquated !!!!!!

... rather than a mountain of college debt, why don’t we treat it like a small business loan. Essentially a student loan is financing someone’s future employment. This principle could be applied to inner city youth — set up a super skill training corp, teach them plumbing, wiring, etc and couple it with an inspiring “own your own business” component and loan these “students” money for the training and initial business start up. Loan pay back payments would be treated as a business expense and would offset dollar for dollar against revenue.

If they do that, my daughter and her husband will be really pissed. They paid off $60,000 in studend loans in 3 years by eating beans and rice.

I knew a Jesus Freak back in the seventies who after reading Lindsay’s book “The Late Great Planet Earth” determined that going into debt having and maxing out up credit etc... was perfectly acceptable because the Earth was going to end and we were all going to get sucked up into a cloud and life was good.

I have heard that he finally straightened up his financials and was selling pipe in the oil industry and doing quite well actually, but the mindset back in the seventies for him really was an interesting thing to observe.

I sort of see that today with the college loan debacle. Thankfully I was able to pursue my own degree with my own money and not burden my lower middle-class parents with a sizable debt. Especially a debt that could have been incurred on a young man that really did not have the drive or the desire at that point in life to make the most of a formal education.

So, I was (became) able to spend a few years experiencing life (thank you U.S. Armed Forces) and accepting my values which helped to develop my values and then going to school on my own and making a much better use of that educational opportunity than if my parents would have been gone into debt (which they did not deserve).

Why would the federal government forgive these loans? They are making a killing off of the interest revenue. I suspect President Trump doesn’t have much sympathy towards dead beats who don’t pay their debts.

And they would have been too. If only Hillary had won. Sorry Snowflakes.

And while on the topic of Student Loans; President Trump needs to end immediately the FedGov guarantee of all student loans. This is a trillion dollar waste of money costing taxpayers 170 Billion Dollars.

I'm sure they can find some way to pay for those advanced degrees in Sociology or Womyn's Studies with their barista gigs.

Whatever. The suffering taxpayers and their grandchildren shouldn't be on the hook for their stupidity.

No, this is all about the age old practice of indentured servitude.

Bolshevik! They made the choice, they took the money, and the fact is that many may of them spent that money on things not remotely connected to their education, why should their debts be forgiven at the taxpayers expense?

Is it indentured servitude when someone borrows money to buy a car? a house, new teeth, a TV? Should everybodY"s debts be forgiven because they find it hard to pay back or they chose poorly and there are no jobs their degrees are in demand for?

Where did you get the crazy idea that I was saying that their debts should be forgiven?

I am saying that nobody should borrow money in the first place and that there is something wrong with a system that encourages debt, because it takes away freedom.

Yeah, the GI Bill was a good idea.

As for your friend, it looks like legalization of pot really isn't such a good idea.

The Feds have been selling the loans to private businesses. They won’t be forgiven.
