In his address to the joint session of Congress, President Donald Trump asserted, “Education is the civil rights issue of our time.” Trump invited Denisha Merriweather to be a guest in the gallery.

“As a young girl, Denisha struggled in school and failed third grade twice,” the president said. “But then she was able to enroll in a private center for learning, with the help of a tax credit scholarship program.”

In an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal in October of 2014, Denisha said Florida’s tax-credit scholarship program “saved” her.

It all starts with Education. If President Trump can change the way education is provided, the dumbing down of our society WILL END!
I now, see REAL hope and change!

Home environment has a lot to do with it but better choice can’t hurt

I am of the opinion that the entire system should be voucher based.

Trump said school choice for disadvantaged youth, “including millions of African-American and Latino children,” will “break the cycle of poverty.”

What a profound Trump line here! The Dems depend on illiterate captive audiences(the products of deliberate inferior schooling) for their voting bloc Dem slaves. It had to infuriate all of the Dem bump on a log attendees to the max here?

My church is one of the last that houses a Catholic school in the region. I would love for my daughter to go there over public school, but considering the price of tuition PLUS the cost of school taxes, it’s unreasonable for us to consider it.

This is the exact scenario that needs addressed. I shouldn’t have to pay for services I’m not going to use.

He’s on target. Poor education is what got us to this point of self-destruction. It is exactly what the Bill Ayers types wanted all along. Destroy America from within by numbing children’s minds and implanting communist ideology.

The argument that I repeatedly see about vouchers is that private and charter schools will not have the federal mandate to spend enourmous amounts of money on “special education” students.

A school board member freind told me that they spend as much on a tiny minority of “special education” students as they spend on the vast majority of regular students alltogether.

That is where this “everyone must be equal” leads. Situations where a “special education” student who is so impaired that they need a full time minder to take them from class to class, and who never advances in a meaningfull way.

That single student has enourmous costs associated with them.

The solution is to stop the federal mandate! Do not require that states spend half their education budget on special education.

Trump’s plan will help but it’s also possible to homeschool faith. We should look to all options the Lord furnishes.

Good point. Trump can be an excellent bully pulpit here. Enable charities to help such cases.

Trump uses the Dems technique against them. He spouts a liberal meme about something being a “civil right.” Then he proposes a conservative solution as a means to granting that “civil right.”

The Left is flumoxed and has no idea what to do with their own medicine being thrown in their faces.

I agree on home environment but most public schools foster an environment which discourages students being too smart so that the below average students don’t feel bad. Part of it is the fact that the teachers were often not the brightest when they were students.
