Arkansas Rushes to Execute 8 Men in the Space of 10 Days
New York Times ^ | 3/3/2017 | Matthew Haag and Richard Fausset

Posted on 03/04/2017 2:31:58 PM PST by simpson96

The state of Arkansas plans to put to death eight inmates over a span of 10 days next month, a pace of executions unequaled in recent American history and brought about by a looming expiration date for a drug used by the state for lethal injections.

The eight men facing execution — four black and four white — are among 34 death row inmates in Arkansas, where capital punishment has been suspended since 2005 over legal challenges and difficulty in acquiring the drugs for lethal injections.

All eight men were convicted of murders that occurred between 1989 and 1999, and proponents of the death penalty and victims’ rights in the state have been frustrated that the cases have dragged on so long. (snip)

Brian Stull, a senior staff attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union, argued that something was more likely to go wrong with so many executions scheduled so close together.

“Each of these prisoners is a person with rights that have to be honored, and each execution is a process that needs to be planned and handled with care and close attention to detail,” he said. “And that’s just impossible for Arkansas on this schedule. Because they’re trying to do too much, too quickly, with too little preparation. It’s likely to lead to botched executions.”

Should read “Each of these prisoners is a person who committed a crime so heinous that the courts have repeatedly decided they are no longer fit to live and must pay with their lives.”

” - four black and four white - “

Only the liberal media would think this is of any importance. Yeesh.

” a looming expiration date for a drug used by the state for lethal injections. “

Why not just use the drugs used for “medically-assisted suicide”. We’re told that it’s a pleasant way to go.

It’s likely to lead to botched executions.”

They put hundreds of obstacles in the way and then claim the rush will lead to botched executions. If so, the ACLU is responsible.

As for being “botched”, if they end up dead, it was not botched.

They lived anywhere from 18 to 28 years longer than their victims.

I profess: capital punishment is something I'm still wrestling with so far as my personal beliefs are concerned.

But every one of these eight men makes for a compelling case to support it.

And that is has occurred over the last YEARS! This bufoon makes it sound like they were found guilty last month and then rushed to the gallows.

In fact they have had God knows how many appeals over God knows how many years or decades.

They’ll whine and cry that they should go peacefully without harm or duress. Like their victims.

Tie cinder blocks to their legs and toss them into a 10 foot deep pool. No pain.

Damn. 8 men. Couldn’t they throw in at least one woman, a white one, too, to even the score a little? I’m sure we could stir up a little sumptin on SOME woman who spent time in Arkansas, and was up to her neck in scandal, conspiracy and worse.

Stick of dynamite
Anal lube
Ten-second fuze
Lawn sprinkler 100 yards away
If they make it the sentence is commuted to life.
Pay per view.
