Paul Ryan sells out conservatives with healthcare surrender
the Hill ^ | March 29, 2017 | BY MARK MECKLER

Posted on 03/29/2017 1:18:42 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

When Mitt Romney selected Congressman Paul Ryan as his running mate, people cheered. He was young, attractive, idealistic, and — doggone it! — he did P90x. Images of him lifting weights bounced across the internet. Surely this is what the GOP needed, they said. New blood. Youth. Strength.

The fact that his losing bid against Barack Obama and Joe Biden was the high mark of his career says a great deal about his legacy. His lack of true leadership has grown more and more evident. During the last week, Speaker Ryan's stature managed to shrink in regard to Congress, and certainly in the eyes of conservatives all across America. How far can he shrink before being deposed from the Speakership?

Only time will tell, but he was doomed from the start. Following in the footsteps of John Boehner, he’s a big government Republican. He and many others in Congress could have stopped ObamaCare before it started, by using the inherent power of the purse held by the House of Representatives. He was never willing to do that, nor were any other members of the so-called "leadership." He’d proven his insider, status quo stripes long before the fight over this latest fake repeal bill.

Too bad for Ryan, this is the era of the outsider; he’s the quintessential "insider." He's been on Capitol Hill almost continually since he graduated from college. He's been in the House since 1998. Much like Rep. Eric Cantor before him, Ryan seems to have lost touch with a base that has grown restless with the status quo.

“We the people” are in a revolutionary mood and he’s definitely not revolutionary leadership. What Ryan did with healthcare last week was the most flaccid embarrassment to the Republican Party in recent memory. Instead of the repeal ...promised...

Seems to me that the people in his district keep electing him despite his record in Congress. In the last election he won with, I think, 87% of the vote. Until the people in WI wake up he will continue his Rino ways.

The author is Doug Wead. It’s not about Priebus per se. It’s about the 2016 election. Wead has written over 100 books, you can get his info on Amazon.

I found the book quite interesting. He does a great review of all the Clinton scandals for those who may be too young to know or have just forgotten.

He seems to have a bit of a pro Trump bias.

The book is very well written and entertaining as well as informative.

Eric Cantor is no longer in Congress.
He got a phony bologna consulting job with some Wall Street firm for $3.5 million a year, but he seems to always be at home in Richmond.

Ryan is Romney’s lead man in the Washington never-Trumper cabal.

Yup. Trump will rue the day he ever allowed Ryan the snake to hiss sweet nothings into his ear.

Ryan = The Snake 2.0

Boehner = The Snake 1.0

Trump is up against the exact same cabal that Reagan was up against, the exact same cabal that Palin was up against.

BushMittRoveGOPe.

Worse than Dems.

What phase are we in?"

With GOPe, in between 3 and 4, there is the "Goto 1" step.

Thank you for your informative response. The information leads me to believe it is less likely this was focused on Priebus from the vantage point of trying to remake him.

Glad to know that.

Sounds like an interesting writer.

Take care.

I thought up a solution that eliminates all federal involvement in any and every way whatsoever, same as if you’re buying a car. It eliminates the burden on business to administer ala carte policies, eliminates union waivers and subsidies, returns complete control to the state, allows cooperation between states, and addresses the elephant in the room - how to stop institutionalized socialized medicine under the guise of expansion of medic-aid. And I think it’s a better start than some one sentence showboat bill. So, here goes:

“The Feds-Out Plan”

1. All medic-aid program enrollments are hereby frozen.
2. Medic-aid enrollees have worse medical outcomes than privately insured patients because of lack of availability of doctors accepting medic-aid. Inadequate medic-aid reimbursements to providers results in ‘cost-shifting’ which is the most important factor of higher premiums. Therefore, the total of medic-aid enrollees will be reduced to no larger than 1/20th the population of the workforce (children excluded). Programs will be funded via block grants. Block grants for 2017 will equal 3/4ths of 2016 levels and reduced in similar increments until the enrollee goal is achieved.
3. All federal subsidies, credits or any other form of federal subsidizing of health insurance premiums are hereby revoked.
4. Individual tax deductions for covered and uncovered medical services, long-term care and insurance premiums are hereby revoked.
5. As the traditional regulator of insurance, States will establish insurance pools, and will designate carriers and services permitted to conduct business in that state. Each pool may have standards and the State underwriters may move the insured from one pool to another without prior notice as treatment history warrants. States who contract with less than 3 insurance carriers will apply to the US Attorney General for a waiver, providing justification. Individuals may purchase across state lines but only from a carrier that is also licensed to do business in their own state.
6. Independent group pools for non-profit, for-profit, state and county employee and independent groups of any sort, including unions of any sort, are no longer permitted. High-risk states (i.e., Alaska, Vermont, Wyoming) may pool together.
7. All policies, including Cadillac and catastrophic plans, must be purchased on an individual basis through the state pool using the individual’s social security number. Enrollment will be limited to an ‘open season.’ Those choosing to opt out will be required to sign an notarized acknowledgement of the right of the State to seize assets if uninsured care is sought.
8. States may seize the assets and estates upon death of any uninsured or insured individual sufficient to reimburse the State for unpaid costs incurred or submitted by a state-approved provider, including administrative costs involved. Estates are prohibited from deducting seized funds or assets from federal tax returns.
9. Providers who claim unpaid services will submit claims to the State who will reimburse the provider from the asset siezure fund. Related tax credits for providers previously used to write off such losses on federal tax returns are revoked.
10. All stock trading, commmon and preferred, and all pension fund trading in insurance and service provider related futures is hereby frozen for 90 days, subject to extension, to prevent stock market destabilization as states establish their pools and accomplish enrollments.

Please post the text from the U.S. Constitution delineating the enumerated power delegated to the federal government to enact laws to mandate or control health care matters.

The only reason Paul Ryan is Speaker is because Cantor got primaried out and Kevin McCarthy was DOA to the House Republican caucus so Boehner had to go with Ryan when he was pushed out of the Speaker's chair since he was running low on reliable lackeys. Boehner & Cantor are still in Washington to help manage things and that's who Ryan goes to get his orders from. Ryan's agenda isn't Trumps agenda so expect him to delay, frustrate, and sabotage Trump as much as possible. The fact that he couldn't repeal Obama Care shouldn't come as a surprise and just wait when it comes time for funding the wall or increased border enforcement those votes magically fail too.

Right. As noted, I think Ryan is a big government guy as long as it’s done in the way he thinks it should be done “correctly”. So, yeah, he’s at cross purposes with drain the swamp types and is an establishment guy.

One of three things are going to happen. 1) Ryan has gotten the message and adroitly shifts his Speakership to where the will of the people are, or 2) he stubbornly holds to his big but “better” government ways, or 3) he gets removed from the Speakership, which would likely give the Democrats and the corrupt MSM months of gleeful smack talk and likely put the Republican agenda is serious peril.

My hope is on #1, but time will tell.

Can’t believe this came from the Hill.

The guy nails Ryan dead to rights.

Like a Democrat-—which in truth he is-—Ryan advances in position and pay-grade every time he fails.

I have full confidence that Ryan will continue fully funding the unrepealed, unconstitutional Obamacare and will increase the federal debt limit to do so and will NOT fund the border wall.

Ryan is an official “R”; his wife is the “D” in the family.
