CNN ^

The Senate has cast enough votes to confirm Neil Gorsuch, a 49-year-old federal judge who could help cement a conservative majority on the bench for decades, to the Supreme Court, according to a CNN count of the vote.

"Cement a conservative majority?"

If we are lucky, with Gorsuch, there are only three reliable conservative votes with Roberts and Kennedy as swing votes. This is not yet a conservative court.

Kennedy better retire before TRUMP’s 1st term is done!!

I believe Kennedy will retire before RBG. She's probably going to try to hold on until Trump's gone. She'll probably die in her robes.

Good. Hope he doesn’t turn out like the guy who picked him.

“It must be because it’s Friday....

RBG??”

Ruth Buzzy Ginsberg, our next likely SCOTUS replacement. Although it might be Kennedy, word has it he wants to retire. Then there’s always Breyer. Trump could really put things right if he could replace all three in his first term. And he could really “fix” things if they were all in their late 40’s. We could have a conservative SCOTUS for as long as 40 years if he does it right. Just think about what this would mean for “The Fat Yenta,” and the “Wise Latrina!” They are relatively young, but their being on the Court would be meaningless! Life is good!

I am curious why Ginsberg did not retire when the Democrats controlled the Senate. She has been ill for some time. I doubt she even knows what is written over her name, I am sure her clerks are actually writing her decisions.

Yes, great point. And I also wonder if the GOP secretly agreed to not try to replace a hard core lefty with a hard core righty....This SCOTUS pick was just defending our turf, it’s the next one that is going to be a HUGE battle.

The dishonesty of the media is now so bad, virtually nobody believes a word out of their mouths. In fact, the lies may very well be pushing folks in droves towards the right.

And their endless attempts to discredit and undermine Trump at every turn is getting quite old. It's like having a platoon of leftist media hacks posting.☺

“Has Trump promised to pick from the same list? I don’t recall. “

I’d vote for Jeanine Piro and Andrew Napolitano. We’ve all seen enough of them to know what kind of Justices they would be. The only problem with both of them is that they are not young enough. We need a 40 year Conservative SCOTUS.

Now maybe after 1 or 2 more we’ll be in good shape??

If not for this one, you’d be saying the same about the next one right? Based on this, it makes this one every bit as important as the next one.

Right?

Totally agree. I suspect the scenario will be that Ruth will have appeared to fall asleep AGAIN, but there will be no waking her.

As for Kennedy, Laura Ingraham, who has an “in” with other clerks at the court, thinks/sees some indications that Kennedy will retire fairly soon.

And that’s why we called him Lyin’ Ted.

This is just great news!!

But i’ll never know why obama didn’t push for his man.

The public was slightly in favor of voting back then.

He just seemed to let it go. Thank God.

Was he that confident in a hillary win? He of all people should know how much she sucks at campaigning.

Ahh, but as I said yesterday, I don’t believe Trump will get the chance. These craggers won’t retire if they don’t like him. They’ll wait for a Democrat.

RBG??

JMO, but unless RBG passes (or retires, but I suspect she plans to serve until death) in the next 6 months, I believe the next vacancy will be Kennedy's. Lots of well-sourced (-looking) buzz recently that Kennedy wants to retire and wants to be sure that his replacement will be solid.

To THAT end, Trump has hugely satisfied Kennedy by picking former Kennedy (and White) clerk Neil Gorsuch for Scalia's seat.
