A very poignant history. I agree that things are about to get worse again - a return to the repression of the past.

In the 1990s, there was a genuine mood of renewal in Turkey. Many intellectuals were willing to talk about the national crimes of the past, and that is the first stage to coming to terms with them. After all - just about all nations have violent histories. But then, this neo-Ottoman chauvinism came back with Erdogan. He rose in power at the same time as 9/11, and Turkey has been a strange and malign influence on the 'war on terror' - look what is happening in Syria.

Yes, Turkey and Erdogan were an integral part of the rise of ISIS. Along with Obama and Hillary.

Now he wants to Kill Kurds, claiming they are the terrorists. As he currently shelters many of the same Terrorists who were working for ISIS.

My hope is that Putin and Trump can choose a path of cooperation that leaves Erdogan totally exposed to his own crap.
