(CNN)The 11-year-old girl was relentlessly bullied. And the culprit, police say, were her teachers.
One of them told the girl to "go kill herself" and threatened to fail other students if they didn't fight the girl, police said. And when that teacher was removed from the classroom, a second teacher allegedly kept up the abuse. The two Louisiana teachers, Ann Marie Shelvin and Tracy Gallow, now face criminal charges.
St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said he learned of the accusations back in February after the girl's mother filed a complaint. The mother returned to the sheriff's office in April to say the abuse was continuing. Deputies said Shelvin, a teacher at Washington Elementary, threatened to fail three of her students if they didn't fight the girl. She also allegedly told the bullied girl to "go and kill herself." In a police report obtained by CNN, a student involved in the incident told deputies that Shelvin forced her to start a fight that resulted in several students sent to the principal's office.

There are some bad people and bad schools out there.
There’s no information about why this girl was chosen as a victim.
Ann Marie Shelvin and Tracy Gallow
My gut guess was right.
I 2nd-guessed myself when I saw the names. Thought maybe they were white trash after all.
“The girl’s mother told police that Gallow retaliated against the girl for reporting Shelvin to the principal.”
I’ve actually seen teachers who regularly singled out a particular student to humiliate and bully, and encourage the other students to do the same. Naturally the kids get the message to continue the pressure on the play ground and on the school busses, or walk home. It’s a horribly miserable situation to be in, and it’s nothing new. It’s been going on for eons. The long term effect is crippling at best, deadly at worst.
Well, yes, but that doesn’t explain why Ms. Shelvin had targeted this girl rather than a different student.
There’s a reason that a piece of journalism was supposed to address “the five Whys”: Who, What, When, Where, Why. We want to know, and if the information isn’t provided, we know the writer isn’t doing the job right.
Abuse of power of the kind mentioned in this article are just absolutely despicable, and should carry severe punishment...
My first search for “teacher told student to commit suicide” gave me a white teacher in the Charlotte area, in a case a year old. So, open minds and all that.
My sister-in-law was bullied by such a teacher when she was a child, and it’s my husband’s belief that it did long-lasting harm.
I don’t think black on black would be considered a hate crime.
.
So the media doesn’t want to say.
Doesn't make any sense to me either.
That sounds like Ms. Gallow just made something up when she was caught.
You are probably right. Maybe the child is hispanic??
You are probably right. Maybe the child is hispanic??
Is your last sentence, which cannot be read as anything but highly prejudiced, acceptable in this forum?
They, and the school, are claiming "student privacy" as the reason they are not telling the rest of the story but everyone local knows who, what, when, where and why. I predict that the rest of the story will be on-line inside a week.
