Minnesota lawmakers sat in stunned silence Wednesday as a Somali-American woman described how she was grabbed while sleeping by her mother and relatives, blindfolded and tied down to have her genitals cut as a young girl. She still remembers the pain, the blood and a woman holding the piece of her flesh above her.
Farhio Khalifs story put a name and face to the little-known cultural ritual now in the national spotlight after a Detroit-area doctor was charged with genital mutilation for allegedly performing the procedure on two 7-year-old girls from Minnesota.
A federal judge on Wednesday denied bond for two other people charged in the case: a doctor who owns the clinic where the procedures allegedly took place and his wife, who prosecutors believe may have helped hold down the children. A prosecutor alleged during the hearing that Dr. Jumana Nagarwala, who is accused of performing the procedures, may have done it to countless others since 2005.
State lawmakers across the country are responding to the case: The Minnesota House panel that heard Khalifs story unanimously passed a bill that would make parental involvement in a girls genital mutilation a felony and grounds to lose custody rights.

Watch for the gender fluids to call it circumcision, and accept it or ban it for all.
Catholic Charities and the ELCA should be so proud of themselves.
I started hearing about this horrible practice over ten years ago. It was at a women’s lawyer conference. I quit going after the second one because of the evil pro-abortion cr*p I was hearing but I remember this seminar.
How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property - either as a child, a wife, or a concubine - must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men.
Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities. Thousands become the brave and loyal soldiers of the Queen; all know how to die; but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science - the science against which it had vainly struggled - the civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilization of ancient Rome.
A quote from an 1899 book by Winston Churchill, "The River War", in which he describes Muslims he apparently observed during Kitchener's campaign in the Sudan
Where are the NOW hags at? Hillary screaming about war on wimminz. I bet Dayton will veto this bill.
I never knew there were so many racist, sexist, ethnocentric, Islamophobes in the Minnesota legislature.
The MUSLIMS have demanded that the media stop using the term mutilation, and use the term cutting.
Well cutting means things heal and get back to normal. Chopping off a clitoris DOES NOT result in new one coming back to take its place (and I won’t even get into what they do the vulva). Hard to believe that FEMALE REPORTERS are now protecting the people that engage in this horrific rite, and could care less about the victims.
Well, THERE goes a big part of the Democrat-Farmer-Labor party’s constituency in Minnesota. ALL the imams there will demand the Minnesota legislature be boycotted altogether.
Keith Ellison shall be SO p*ssed.
The biggest lie is to call it female circumcision. It serves no purpose. Its only intent is to render women insensitive to sexual pleasure so that they’re better sex slaves.
Why do we need more laws?
Haven’t they ever heard of assault?
A law is needed to outlaw butchery? Yikes.
Give it up folks. Our Declaration, Constitution, Bill of Rights, and over 220 years of case law, taken together, is just a suicide pact.
And all the while, for several years, I’m told again and again how dangerous an Article V COS will be.
Are we going to prosecute the parents that let this happen?
Isn’t this a “right” in the same section of the former Constitution as “abortion”?
All the Muslims may leave Minnesota - Oh horrors, they may come here.
Yep and same with the World Council of Churches.
All 3 of them from the pit of hell!
The vast majority of male circumcisions are done w/o religious context, in such a way as not to destroy sexual sensation, potency or fertility, and are notionally justified (in health terms) as a hygienic/protective measure. Male circumcision is not maiming, no more than pierced earlobes for earrings could be called "maiming."
“Are we going to prosecute the parents that let this happen?”
We need to prosecute and then EXECUTE anyone involved in this hideous act of savagery! It won’t go away until the consequences of doing it are drastic and severe because drastic and severe are the only things Muslims understand.
Go Minnesota.
Yes, and since we don’t run around naked in the jungle anymore, us modern society dwellers don’t need that “extra layer of protection”. It actually becomes a hazard as a bacteria trap instead. There are absolutely no benefits to the female variety, if you can call it that, except to denigrate women. Why are liberals silent about it? It shows their complicity.
