Is America Really Coming Apart, As Charles Murray Suggests?
Mises Institute ^ | June 27, 2017 | Jeff Deist

A new Rasmussen poll reports that a majority of voters think so, and it certainly feels that way. Since Donald Trump’s election in November, the pace and intensity of deeply divisive rhetoric has accelerated. Antifa and the Alt-Right are literally fighting in the streets. Combative talking heads on cable news, vicious social media exchanges, riots at universities, a bitter special election in Georgia, and even the shooting of a congressman have both sides rethinking the entire political process and talking about abandoning the “rule of law.”

It is an uneasy time, a time for hard questions. Can politics really provide a solution to our problems, or is it the cause? Should we still abide by democratic processes when a significant portion of the country is enraged by the outcome? What if voting and elections simply weren’t anymore? These are the questions we need to ask and answer honestly.

The ceremony of innocence is drowned.
My best friend, my best man (and I, his) and only brother, we haven’t spoken since January after his nasty e-mail attack on President Trump.

Some good thoughts and I agree with welcoming apostates. Very important.

Islam itself is a terrible cult in its current form. Just like Christianity went through a reformation; Islam is in dire need of it to cut out all pure crap in its Koran. It doesn’t matter what any Muslim says; the words of hate, war, sharia law, subjugation, etc are written right in their Koran so there will always be an ISIS or Taliban rising to take advantage of the weak uneducated minds of those who believe all the crap parts of their cult.

I refuse to call it a religion in its current form. Perhaps after a reformation if they succeed in doing it at all and culling the crap out of it.

The left is coming apart and they’re on the wrong side to begin with.

This author’s description is out of touch with Murray, but both are right.

Murray: elites vs non-elites
Everyone else: right vs left

Murray tried to stay away from solutions, other than the anti-bureaucracy living wage. But he would like this author’s solution, which would help avoid the potential violent division: FEDERALISM

It’s inevitable, but progressives hate it and will fight it. And some conservatives hate it. Some think their policies should be thrust on every single state no matter what.

"Should we still abide by democratic processes when a significant portion of the country is enraged by the outcome?"

Which is precisely why the Founding Fathers established a REPUBLIC and not a DEMOCRACY, and instituted specific "supermajority" requirements for making certain changes.

The use of supermajority vote requirements assures a much wider societal acceptance of voted changes and smaller disgruntled groups.

From the last sentence in the article...

Surely divorce, in whole or in part, is better than an abusive marriage.

The author seems to conclude that our system is in some way defective and needs to shift to a more centralized 'can't we all just get along ' society. Sorry but it ain't gonna happen! Consider our nations propensity toward violent solutions to political issues, the apparent willingness to overlook past transgressions so that we can all start anew, and the legacy of the right to keep and bear arms, we the people will continue to be the dysfunctional, well armed, violent and (agreed) abusive members of these United States.

What is coming apart - what must come apart - is wire service journalism as a priesthood of cynicism.
Commercial journalism has certain business imperatives, all aimed at attracting and keeping an audience. Among those imperatives are:
    Always meet your deadline,

  • prefer “Man Bites Dog” story to “Dog Bites Man.”

  • position your audience as being knowledgable and civic minded. Thus, claim that you are objective.
The first of the imperatives produces superficiality; if no actually important reports are on hand the reporter will hype the significance of the report he does publish.

The second of the imperatives produces negativity, particularly negativity toward the people whom society most depends on.

The third of the imperatives amplifies the effect of the others. If you are superficial, claiming objectivity makes you very superficial. If you are negative, claiming objectivity makes you cynical.

Journalism is cynical about society and those upon whom its workings most depend. Cynicism about society does not imply cynicism about government. To the contrary, cynicism about society implies the need for government - and plenty of it. IOW, cynicism about society is a necessary and sufficient condition for socialism.

Wire service journalism needs to be sued into oblivion, on the basis that, de facto, wire services combine its members into a single entity in violation of Sherman Anti-Trust Act (1890)

Democrats do the dividing. Finally people have had enough and elect Republicans. Then Democrats blame the Republicans for the divide that they themselves created.

Democrats are always behind the curve, irresponsible, in denial and immature.

The rule by whim folks are no longer the rulers and it’s not a surprise they are acting crazy, because they are crazy! They call themselves “The Resistance” and what they are resisting is objective reality. Never forget much of the country has been corrupted or the Obamanation would not have happened.

The delirious fools who voted for Obama have not gone away . The folks who drove them crazy are finally losing influence and they are not relinquishing that power quietly. It’s a warm revolution . Some violence but not the bloodshed of a full blown conflagration . It’s part of a healing process. Objective reality is finally returning to the minds of Americans.

Politics is more a contributing factor than a solution. The problem is Satan and his minions. I never thought I’d live to see the day when Satanism would be considered a religion instead of a cult.

Corrupted people at all levels are spewing forth nonsense and living in an alternate reality. Tolerant Americans have compromised so much that our society is becoming bizarre and unreal.

Boys must be allowed to use the girls bathroom? Tax money must be used for gender change operations? It’s ok to murder babies? Time to just say no to nonsense and sin. Pray to God for deliverance from evil for our country and families.
