Ted Cruz: CNN May Have Broken Georgia Law
dailycaller.com ^ | 07/05/2017

According to Senator Ted Cruz, CNN’s threats to dox the Reddit user who created the Trump wrestling CNN video could be a violation of Georgia law.

CNN discovered the identity of the Reddit user who made the video and essentially threatened to reveal his identity if he continued to post unsavory content.

Cruz said if CNN tracked down the Reddit user through his IP address and then used that information to threaten him, they could be in violation of a Georgia law.

CNN headquarters are located in Atlanta, GA.

The GA Code explains that someone could be guilty of “Theft by extortion” if they threaten to “disseminate any information tending to subject any person to hatred, contempt, or ridicule or to impair his credit or business repute.”

Most of what people communicate on Facebook pages is casual chatter.

At FR, you can actually learn something! And converse with really smart experts and people like HL who can crystalize tough subjects and get YUGE blood flowing in MAGA directions :- )

It seems like there might be TWO plaintiffs here—the meme creator and HanSolo...both should sue CNN. I hated them before, I really hate them now.

CNN is in the clear. CNN never obtained any property from HansAsshole. Therefore, CNN isn't guilty of theft by extortion.

I hate to see Republicans try to criminalize political differences.

Real news seems passé now. All the worlds attention is on virtual events.

Virtual events....the new smoke and mirrors in the room to keep you away from what is really happening in the real world.

Here is what I don’t get in all this. If I understand this (and I am not a lawyer so chances are I don’t) it is unlawful for ANYONE to inform another party that “unless you do this, I am going to do that” just about no matter WHAT the “this” and “that” are. Sure, folks enter into contracts, etc. willfully but that is different. For any person or group to basically pull a name out of a hat and use COERCION with an implied threat of physical harm is illegal already and if not should be. So why is the response to all this coming from 4chan, etc. Where the hell is Jeff Sessions? If the shoe were on the other foot 12 months ago Loretta Lynch would have been all over the TV for the last 24 hours. Or 6 years ago we would have had an Eric Holder marathon. Just WTH is going on here?

“Where the hell is Jeff Sessions?”

He recused himself. From everything. Forever. Maybe even retroactively.

The guy didn’t even make what Trump tweeted. Reddit guy made a gif. Trump tweeted a video. CNN needs to burn.

That does indeed seem to be the point here. But it is obviously wrong:

Unless you offer a home warranty, I won't buy your house.

Unless you put new tires on the car, I'll buy a car someplace else.

Unless you replace the property management team, I won't commit to being a limited partner.

Unless you can ensure no one will put ketchup on their scrambled eggs, I won't come to your brunch.

Seemingly, all of these statements would be illegal in Ted Cruz's world.

I think the difference is in the examples you give is that they are two parties both entering an agreement voluntarily. CNN just dropped a real threat of physical violence on a nearly random dude.

Shameful, and possibly illegal!

In the meantime, people are tripping over each other to mock and ridicule CNN in ever-more creative ways.

Tallyho!

CNN threaten violence on no one. And I fail to see how your “voluntary agreement” test works. Didn’t HansAsshole act voluntarily? He could have told CNN to stick it where the sun don’t shine, but he voluntarily backed off.

Hey old buddy!

Finally!

Finally we have these old media drive-bys on the ropes!

Pound and ground!

[Er ... not meant literally of course. Just the CNN logo.]

-—all that they do will accelerate their approaching demise.——

Above all the glitz and glamour of a titillating gossipy discourse is the hard reality of cold hard cash.

What does the ATT board think of the potential ownership of such a harmful, potentially destructive and actively embarrassing asset? What do the stockholders of Time Warner salivating over rich rewards for selling out to ATT only to see it going up in smoke. Cnn is thus a detriment.

The question then becomes “must not CNN be sacrificed, closed, ended dead and buried for the good of all stock holders” . Where is the fool willing to buy the spun off CNN? Does such a fool actually exist?

I heard last night that it was also against a NY law, where the reporter is operating.

Yeah, CNN made him an offer he couldn’t refuse...
