“Diesel is toast”.

Over 50 percent of European cars are diesel.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/425113/eu-car-sales-share-of-diesel-engines-by-country/

If diesels are toast, then bring more butter. They ain’t going anywhere.

Hardly surprising. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Japanese and, yes, even the Once Big Three, are doing the same. I guess it’s a fine line between “industrial standards” and cartel behavior. They still have to compete with other European, Japanese, Korean and American car manufacturers.

The German govt was a silent partner in the conspiracy. The EU emmisions regulations were used as a non tariff barrier to the advantage of the German diesel and car makers. The next shoe to drop will be the conspiracy of heavy duty truck and equipment manufactures.

Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch. I hope that the “Nazi Thunderbird” is dead. These companies are all “green” on the outside, and “red’ on the inside.

It seems our choices are fascism or communism.

We can’t let the little people decide what car they want, or refrigerator, or washing machine, or ....

Everything has to be chosen by our betters.

They achieved the test result by programming a mode to run only during the test.

That isn’t illegal. Unethical yes.

Done all the time. And the only way that a diesel could pass.

Oh.

The domestic maker, the Japanese makers, and all of them, do this.

Often times it is done via trade organizations. Sometimes it is less open.

I don't know why anyone would describe this collusion within the auto industry as a "tsunami." The auto industry is so heavily regulated in every modern country that it basically functions as a public utility in many ways.

Something like 60% of the parts in any compact car sold in the U.S. are common to all of the compact car models.

Okay?

The US has the same cartel. It’s called SAE.

This is the environuts trying to shut down diesel engines in passenger cars, and it has been going on for a very long time.

What a HUGE relief that Bugatti was not named! Now I can get back to counting the change from the penny jars that I need to get to that $3MM...hopefully before #450 Chiron is completed!
