The deep state needs another war somewhere

The Deep State's spokesmen: the Clinton wing of the Democrats and the McCain/Graham wing of the Republican Party are still enraged that President Trump has decided to discontinue funding and arming the "Free Syria Army," even though the "Free Syria Army" is now basically run by the Al Nusra Front, an Al Quaeda spinoff.

If they can't get their war in Syria they'll find some other route.

Unfortunately, if the President vetoes, Congress will override it. Agitating for more wars abroad seems to be one of the issues (along with open borders and outsourcing) where the establishments of both parties are united in lockstep.

What this means is that Trump will have to sign the bill in order to avoid the embarrassment of being overridden by Congress.

-- He has veto power. --

Why use it? Congress has the power to declare war and otherwise conduct foreign policy. Sanctions are right in the scope of the proper exercise of Congressional power.

From what I've read, the WH is satisfied with the amount of power it has to act, under the bill, and is not averse to signing it. Meanwhile, Congress owns the policy.

EU warns US over 'America first' Russia sanctions bill -CNN - 26 July 17

France called the US bill "unlawful" due to its "extraterritorial reach," saying it could impact Europeans if enacted. "We have challenged similar texts in the past," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement. "To protect ourselves against the extraterritorial effects of US legislation, we will have to work on adjusting our French and European laws."

Maybe Russia does too. I see Russia is colluding with Congress.

"Washington is a source of danger," said Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, whose portfolio includes relations with the United States, told a state news agency in an interview. Later, he added: "Essentially, the possibilities for normalization of relations in the foreseeable future are closed."

Hope he vetoes. Ukraine I understand. But let’s not contribute to the fake meme of election interfering. And the Russians are doing in Syria what we should be doing.

Why couldn’t Russia be its own bill? I suspect the reason we got so many in the House is they rolled Iran and North Korea, clear threats, into the same bill.

Well on one hand then thank God for the US Constitution that the President isn’t all powerful. But in this case, Republicans get to join Democrats in being complete ass hats.

Actually, the Russia Sanctions bill is similar to a bill Republicans passed against Obama.

“The congressional review requirement in the sanctions bill is styled after 2015 legislation pushed by Republicans and approved in the Senate that gave Congress a vote on whether then-President Barack Obama could lift sanctions against Iran. That measure reflected Republican complaints that Obama had overstepped the power of the presidency and needed to be checked by Congress.”

Two things can be true at the same time.
1). Russia attempt to interfere in the 2016 election.
2). Donald Trump did not collude with the Russians.

Russia should be sanctioned for trying to interfere in the 2016 election. I support the Sanctions bill.

He should just do what both Bush and Obama did, sign it but issue a signing statement saying he’s taking it as “advisory” only....

VETO! If they want to override the veto, let them then they can run on being tough on Russia in 2018. Let it be clear that there policies are not your policies. Congress is an enemy to the country. All they want to do is make sure Trump doesn’t have the powers of the Presidency. They did the same to Obama and he just negotiated a new deal that they all hated. Trump will do the same. Screw them! Veto!

Good, let them override it. This is their policy so when it does absolutely nothing to stop any of the countries from doing whatever the heck they want they can take full responsibility. In any event, how much is Trump going to enforce violators. Congress agrees on sanctions (they did they same to Obama). If all of Congress agrees on something then that’s a good enough reason to veto it because they are never right.

They’ll move as fast as possible on this. I know he has 10 days to ride it out before vetoing. If he can time it right he might be able to kill it. How exactly does the pocket veto work?

Screw embarrassment. Let them go against Trump and let them own it. They are never right and I”m confident this is not the right step either. Hold tough Mr. President!

In its basic form, a pocket veto works after 10 days, and not returned within those days, that Congress is out of session not counting Sundays.

After the 10 consecutive days have gone by, the president notes to the world that he has not signed the legislation into law but “pocketed it” and not returned it to congress which kills the bill.

However in modern 20th century history, Congress went whining to the Supreme Court over presidential pocket vetoes who then limited future presidents. This former zot and Obama supporter informed me the latest ins and outs about the pocket veto seen here in this post:

I checked it out where he likely got his info at Wiki and it looks to be correct.

Could you elaborate please?

Sure. It looks likely that Russians hacked into the DNC and released damaging info on Clinton to WikiLeaks to hurt Hillary.

Donald Trump had no participation (or collusion as the DEMS would say) in the Russian activities. Their interests simply coincided.

Are you suggesting nearly all of congress believes that? Which is why they voted for this? I don't get what you're saying. I'm sorry

OTOH, if he signed it, it would blow the minds of Russia-obsessed liberals.
