This has been on the radio for several days since the House and Senate reached a joint agreement on it. The radio report contended that the Russian sanctions were due to their interference in the U.S. elections. Thus, it gives the Democrats a lot of cover for an event with little substantive evidence. The Republicans should not have caved on this!

Does he really want the optics of looking like he is protecting Russia and then having his veto overturned?

I mean, it’s Trump. So he might.

But his veto would be overturned easily.

The issue is the constitutionality of it. If it is the House initiating a bill giving them power to conduct foreign policy, then I doubt its constitutionality.

If its the House saying we can inotiate sanctions on a foreign country, then that sounds like conducting foreign policy to me.

Separation of powers, and that should be Trump’s point as his DOJ refers it to SCOTUS.

So now they are attempting to start a trade war with Russia based on no evidence.

These people are completely insane.

Nice to see congress has its priorities straight. That will teach Russia to continue not interfere with our elections. America would never interfere with an election of a foreign country

President Trump’s signature may or may not mean much, depending on the Senate vote margin.

...new sanctions on Russia, Iran and North Korea...

The headline seems a little misleading.

curbs Trump’s authority to ease penalties

Is that constitutional? Might want to see if a court will overrule Congress and strike this down.

Why is this not the House conducting foreign affairs? I thought that was a power of the president. In my mind this needs to go to scotus for violating separation of powers.

This is some seriously stupid and greedy/evil ****. It is motivated by a desire to force Europeans to stop buying cheap Russian natural gas and start buying expensive US LNG instead. The EU will come down on us like a ton of bricks if this things goes through.

Hope he vetoes. Ukraine I understand. But let’s not contribute to the fake meme of election interfering. And the Russians are doing in Syria what we should be doing.

Why couldn’t Russia be its own bill? I suspect the reason we got so many in the House is they rolled Iran and North Korea, clear threats, into the same bill.

He should just do what both Bush and Obama did, sign it but issue a signing statement saying he’s taking it as “advisory” only....

VETO! If they want to override the veto, let them then they can run on being tough on Russia in 2018. Let it be clear that there policies are not your policies. Congress is an enemy to the country. All they want to do is make sure Trump doesn’t have the powers of the Presidency. They did the same to Obama and he just negotiated a new deal that they all hated. Trump will do the same. Screw them! Veto!
