I considered whether to recommend moving the site to Reddit, both for reliability and to save money. A quick look at CNN's partial outing (with Reddit admin support) of the originator of a Trump-CNN video, and at Reddit's deletions of posts, answers that question. We are in the right location. Identities and posting history are not 100% secure, but they are a whole lot more secure than they would be in a different host environment. Thank you for the great work you do.

FR needs more money to fight this kind of DOS freak, which gives more credence to my position of charging a small fee to ALL Freepers {$10/year} and then having one or two Freepathons for extra capital.
I continue to believe that 99.98% of Freepers can afford a $10 a year charge, and for the two-tenths of one percent that cannot afford it, they can say so on FReeper and I will pay for ten of them and I'm sure there are other FReepers that will cover the rest.
Why are you so reluctant to charge a fee? Is there a law that will change the status of FR? If FR is a tax free institution {501-C3} will that change the status?

Exactly. NSA knows everything already. It’s worth keeping the site private to avoid giving the Ctrl-Left, including their followers in NSA, plausible deniability to leak whatever they want to let out. As for the DOS attack, it’s evidence that a few of America’s enemies know FR is important.
I woke up about 4am EST and had no trouble at all. Still no trouble 3 hours later pages loading fast. Yesterday was the slowest day for me. Maybe it’s beat now.
