'He missed a critical opportunity': Walmart CEO slams Trump for failing to 'unequivocally' reject white supremacists

McMillon has criticized President Trump for failing to "unequivocally" reject white supremacists in aftermath of their violent rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.

"As we watched events and response from President Trump over weekend, we felt he missed critical opportunity to help bring our country together by unequivocally rejecting appalling actions of white supremacists," McMillon wrote in statement posted to Walmart's website.

snip

McMillon's full statement:

Respect for the individual is one of our core beliefs at Walmart. And the role we play in communities around the country to build a more diverse and inclusive society is more critical than ever as the tragic events in Charlottesville over the weekend painfully reminded us. Our prayers are with the victims and their families.

As we watched the events and the response from President Trump over the weekend, we too felt that he missed a critical opportunity to help bring our country together by unequivocally rejecting the appalling actions of white supremacists. His remarks today were a step in the right direction and we need that clarity and consistency in the future.

Our country is facing some very difficult issues that require our elected officials, business leaders and community-based organizations to work together. Representing a company with the largest and one of the most diverse groups of associates in the U.S., and an even more diverse customer base of tens of millions of customers, we believe we should stay engaged to try to influence decisions in a positive way and help bring people together. I will continue to strongly advocate on behalf of our associates and customers, and urge our elected officials to do their part to promote a more just, tolerant and diverse society.

For us, the Walmart CEO “missed a critical opportunity” to continue seeing any more money from this household. I figure we spend about $1,000/month there on food, dry goods, pet supplies, electronics, etc. We’re done.

________________

LOL—hes he missed a critical opportunity to continue seeing my money too ;) Well put!

I am right there with you...Not sure where you live but I think Meijer Foods and Menard’s Home Improvement and more, both regional chains, seem to not be part of the cadre of liberal leftist leaning companies... that is where I am going to be putting my money used for food, dry goods, pet supplies, electronics, etc.

Actually, we have a nice Aldi store here, and they are going to remodel it and make it bigger. They have great prices on what they sell...plus a new chain called Lidl that has prices as much as half regular supermarket, but better selection/grade than Aldi.

Trump can never say anything they will like. These CEOs are just trying to get business. Instead, they will lose business.

I sure hope they hear us...Like everyone and everything else, these corporatists and politicians seem far more concerned with everyone except patriotic Americans—their customer and voting base :(

If we put on masks and carry clubs and went to antifa events we might have some fun with them. They wouldn’t know who was who.

If Walmart thinks it can play political games and get away with it, I have one word as a reminder: Kellogs

We plan to contact the company today and tell them they are history. Although we never loved Walmart it was easy one-syop shopping.

I don’t recognize the stores you mention except Aldi. We’re near Knoxville.

Mr. McMillon, a quote...

If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquillity of servitude than the animating contest of freedom--go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!

What a world we live in.

I know it is getting more and more difficult to find places where I can spend money and not feel like I am supporting the enemy. I am so tired of being crapped or ignored by globalist elites.

My hope is that Walmart feels a pinch in its bottom line from the Trump voters (who I am sure are spending a lot more than the EBT crowd). If the stock feels the pinch thru lower revenue, perhaps the CEO will learn that if he wants the business of the half of the Country who voted for President Trump, he needs to treat them and their views accordingly.
I am guessing there may be some Southeastern regional chains that are not into the globalist/leftist agenda... Meijer and Menard’s are family owned Midwestern chains.

Lidle is a new grocery store...coming into US. This month, they are opening stores in NC and Virginia—so maybe Tennessee is not far off...:)\

Lived in Knoxville for 3 years. I do miss the Southeast ;)

So, all these CEOs claim Trump didn’t respond fast enough. However, every last one is doing much disservice to the cause by throwing temper tantrums and splitting the very unity they claim the situation demands.

They are all racist Democrats doing nothing but trying to hurt Trump and Americans. Not to mention, they are all globalist companies that don’t like his America First! policy.

It’s getting harder and harder to find places to shop that don’t suck up to the leftists. We have a family owned grocery store near us. Time for me to shop there more often.

Yes, you are right that family owned (or small regional) stores are better—not globalists!

I shop at a regional grocery store chain...good sales—tho regular priced stuff is high, so I will be spendingmore time looking at Lidl, Aldi, and Meijer for Walmart type stuff

I will have to try Aldi. Our local family owned store is OK, but they don’t have a huge selection and their prices are higher. This is how we all end up at Walmart. That’s what our budget wants. :-(

Our Aldi is pretty nice and they now take credit cards, so that is convenient.

They are planning nation-wide remodeling of some stores too. They have some good chocolate—German LOL—I cannot eat it, but gave some to friends and they thought it was very good. Aldi has cookies that are very similar to Girl Scout cookies—so not supporting liberal causes, cheaper and year-round access which some of my family really appreciate ;)

I started going there because my dental hygienist told me Aldi has hormone-free dairy products—I went and their milk is cheaper than most grocery stores, and much cheaper than Whole Foods...

Most of their stuff is basic, but for things like basic breads, basic fruits and vegetables like onions, potatoes, broccoli, celery, cukes, zukes, and oranges bananas, etc. basic spices, water, and what not...they are good. They have organic produce too. A neighbor recommended a spiral ham from Aldi and it was not bad—esp. for the price of $169/lb. Not just Aldi brands either. I get most of our meats from a family owned/regional chain around the corner ;)

Interestingly, I have met many from my fairly upscale neighborhood shopping at Aldi ... Families looking to save some money—and fewer sketchy people than Walmart!

They are related to Trader Joe’s—brothers I think...

Here is an article for anyone interested:

OH, and No, I don’t have stock in Aldi, but I sort of wish I did ;)

We have a locally owned bunch of organic stores which I patronize, but of course all the staff are lefties who look like they belong in Portland.
Not a lot of other options.
