Given enough time and the chemical opportunity, living cells self-assemble.

How do cells self assemble to form an intelligent system ? Lets take the circulatory system for example. How do cells "self assemble" to form a pump with multiple chambers, a set of pipes and a cpu that triggers the pump's action with precision and without failing for decades and a volume of fluid that is maintained within limits so it can keep circulating through the system within design loads. Apparently no knowledge of hydraulics was required to design this; just the possibility that cells would "self assemble" in the right manner. What idiots.

As an engineer, I’m interested in the answer to the legitimate question.
And “because I said so” doesn’t answer the question.

Why has there been no chemical opportunity anywhere else in the known universe for life to spontaneously self assemble itself?

Forget a complex system like life. Take a jar full of 20 red marbles and 20 blue marbles and empty it on the floor. What are the odds that all the blue marbles end up on one side of the floor and the reds on the other ? In real life terms it will take an astronomical amount of time for it to happen. In other words the odds are zero.

Pfft! Giraffes know more about hydraulics than you do.

....and why did the other life forms on earth not become self aware and intelligent?

Why are there no civilizations of buffalo or dolphins?..................

What Caused Life to Come Into Existence?

Nothing. Because that's ever so much more compelling from a scientific basis than something. Especially when that something involves a deity. When design inevitably becomes unavoidable, cue up the space aliens guy because that's what it'll be then.

Exactly right. I read something recently (possibly from Nicholas Nassim Taleb) which discussed the mathematics of things which take “an astronomical amount of time”. From the standpoint of pure math, it truly is seen as no longer “a low probability” it is legitimately seen as “impossible”.

I consider the basic concept of Origin of Life and the Theory of Evolution to be literally “impossible”.

It has become axiomatic that life naturally evolved out of nonliving materials billions of years ago. Given enough time and the chemical opportunity, living cells self-assemble.

Really? "Axiomatic" yet never once observed? This article begins with a strong, false assertion.

YEah, but the Hebrew god was just Shiva by another name, hence the lingam Abraham worshipped as well as the “ladder” Jacob saw the angels ascending and descending on.

“living cells self-assemble”

It’s true! I do it every morning. Takes about two hours.

heh heh

You’ve got it backwards:

http://www.chabad.org/kabbalah/article_cdo/aid/380365/jewish/Abrahams-Presents-to-the-East.htm

...”My sons, these are words similar to those of the Torah.” Nevertheless you should stay well away from these books, in order that you not be led astray by those forms of worship and all of those negative forces that are mentioned there, and stray away from worshiping the Holy One Blessed be He.

All these books mislead a person.

The ancient children of the East were wise; they inherited the wisdom that Abraham sent with the sons of his concubines, as is written: “Abraham gave gifts to the sons of his concubines and sent them eastward [to India], away from his son Isaac while he was still alive.”

Over time they were drawn down many wrong paths by that wisdom...

Leads me to the discussion I had with my daughter the other day.

If the dogs were meant to jump around and cause mayhem in the house, bark at the wind blowing and claw every visitor we have come to the front door AFTER they are done fighting amongst themselves from the microsecond the door bell rings, they would have been smart enough to invent a little plastic box that irritates my hearing to the point I run away in dazed confusion and allows them to continue doing what they want.

Fortunately thats not the case.

” is the first thing scientists postulate is that these materials just self assembled and started working on its own?”

obviously.

And an experiment can be performed to prove it. We’ll go for something MUCH simpler than a single cell organism too, say a nano-sized CF-53 Panasonic i7 laptop with Windows 7 Professional x64 with integrated nano-solar cells for power.

First, we fill a billion (or so) beakers full of the necessary elemental powders, say a few ground up laptops and bootable Windows W7 x64 OS CDs, put some sea water in, and then bombarded the laptop soup in the beakers with lightening for a few hundred million years (or so).

What are the chance of getting our nano-laptop and OS. Pretty good, right? After all, that’s a WAY simpler setup than a self-replicating cell.

Do you think that we would eventually obtain a few simple diodes, later followed by an integrated circuit chip forming in the beaker? And then the chip should eventually RANDOMLY evolve all by itself into the laptop (with operating system) after being bombarded by cosmic rays for an even long time after that? After all, bombarding an integrated circuit with cosmic rays would be like bombarding an Intel i7 fabrication plant with 20mm depleted uranimum shells from an A-10 Warthog, and expecting to get an i9 processor coming out afterwards.

If organic life formed by accident in a similar scenario, then certainly there should be no problem with obtaining the laptop and operating system in a like fashion, because after all, the laptop and OS are a few thousand trillion times simpler than, say, the Homo Sapiens species. In fact, we should obtain the laptop and OS much faster because they are so much simpler.

I wonder how long we’ll have to shake our beakers?
