For what it’s worth. This storm “Harvey” should be re-named OBAMA. It came out of nowhere and caused considerable damage and chaos. When it reached landfall, it didn’t have the decency to dissipate or realize that it has worn out it’s welcome.

Please feel free to start adding your voice to the flood control threads popping up.

There is a lot that needs to go right for the civil engineers to keep this “event” from damaging lots of property.

The sheriff of Houston was just on saying that they caught four looters and threw them in jail. He said people from other states that think about coming here to loot can rest assured they will be arrested, and he has LEO coming from other Texas cities to assist. Criminal behavior will not be allowed.

While the media is complaining and trying to start controversy, the people of Houston (and all parts of Texas) are working together to help those in need.

You wrote: “Having practiced drainage engineering in the Houston region for 43 years , I feel free to discuss floods...”

In Katrina, the dikes failed, flooding New Orleans, as I understand it.

What about Houston? Is it just a case of too much rain for any system to handle, or were there ways to keep the city from flooding that weren’t implemented in the past?

Just curious what insights you might have. I’m not trying to stir the pot. I actually suspect it’s just too flat and large an area to be able to shed that much rain without flood damage occurring, but am wondering if that’s the case.

In a crisis, the lying press is searching for a victim to rape.

Totally tagable... can I steal that?

I remember in the lead up to Katrina , bush calling the governor and mayor asking them to call for a mandatory evacuation . They very publicly derided him saying he was a “ jack-booted thug “ and a dictator for trying to tell them what to do .

I’ve seen too much from too many California residents the last few days.

They are full of glee watching Texas suffer.

It takes a really sad person to receive joy from the suffering of others.

But according to the NBC promotional spots, the fact that Lester Holts “listens” is the MOST important thing. The mere fact that Lester Holt is in Houston listening goes a long way in diminishing the suffering the people in that area are experiencing. They probably don’t realize that blessing to its fullest extent.

I agree its very sad to revel in the suffering of others. Except for the Antifa “pepper balls” guy. That’s still funny. :)

New Orleans mayor who failed miserably to do his job before and during Katrina, Ray "Chocolate City" Nagin, fled to Houston with his family while his own city was being destroyed. Scurried out of town like the rat he is.

If there are any just desserts, I believe he is in prison now for corruption of some kind.

He voluntarily put himself in that situation, so it’s okay to laugh at his pain.

I think his embarrassment is more painful than his physical pain.

If you need a tagline consider “Sheila Lee Jackson, high and dry in the DC swamp”. :-)
