Even if it was legit. "So we lost/gave away your information, but for the low price of $XX.XX we can NOW protect your information."
I think there is a legal definition for this.....

Otherwise we cannot guarantee that your personal information has been officially hacked and compromised. this is the only way to make sure you are truly screwed. Also it would be beneficial to have your bank account numbers handy. Our Nigerian operators are standing by to assist you.
