Harvard withdraws Chelsea Manning's invite to be visiting fellow

Harvard University has withdrawn the invitation given to Chelsea Manning to be a visiting fellow at the Institute of Politics at Harvard Kennedy School amid intense backlash over the controversial decision.

In a statement issued at around midnight Friday, Douglas Elmendorf, dean of Harvard Kennedy School, admitted that naming Manning a visiting fellow for the fall semester was "a mistake."

"This decision now is not intended as a compromise between competing interest groups but as the correct way for the Kennedy School to emphasize its longstanding approach to visiting speakers while recognizing that the title of Visiting Fellow implies a certain recognition," he concluded.

Can’t say as I have had much respect for Haavaad over the years, hearing about some of the people who graduated from there and went on to become enemies of our nation and the Western World.

We’ve offered it to Edward Snowden instead.

Must have been one hell of a donor backlash because they honestly don't see anything wrong with appointing that traitor to be a visiting fellow at their Institute of Politics. They don't live in the same world we do.

ps. please, I'm begging you, don't ever post that picture again!

I have a feeling that JFK would have have wanted Bradly Manning executed. JFK may have been a lot of things but he was not a traitor.

I’m a girl and by me that’s only great
I am proud that my silhouette is curvy
that I walk with a sweet and girlish gait
With my hips kind of swivelly and swervey

I adore being dressed in something frilly
When my date comes to get me at my place
Out I go with my Joe or John or Billy
Like a filly who is ready for the race

When I have a brand new hairdo
With my eyelashes all in curls
I float as the clouds on air do
I enjoy being a girl

When men say I’m cute and funny
And my teeth aren’t teeth but pearls
I just lap it up like honey
I enjoy being a girl

I flip when a fellow sends me flowers
I drool over dresses made of lace
I talk on the telephone for hours
with a pound and a half of cream upon my face

I’m strictly a female female
And my future I hope will be
In the home of a brave and free male
who’ll enjoy being a guy, having a girl like me

When men say I’m sweet as candy
As around in a dance we whirl
It goes to my head like brandy
I enjoy being a girl

With someone with eyes that smolder
Says he loves every silken curl
That falls on my ivory shoulder
I enjoy being a girl

When I hear a complementary whistle
That greets my bikini by the sea
I turn and I glower and I gristle
But I’m happy to know the whistles meant for me

I’m strictly a female female
And my future I hope will be
In the home of a brave and free male
who’ll enjoy being a guy, having a girl like me

(with deepest and sincerest apologies to Miss Peggy Lee and Messrs.’ Rodgers and Hammerstein)

I would suggest just one single donor pushing this...maybe as a joke to see if they’d actually take it serious, and Harvard fell for it.

The problem to this (it’s a one-year ‘visiting fellow’ deal) is that there’s going to be a lecture or two.

So here’s this guy. Former Army...three brief years in Army intelligence...not widely traveled....no real education beyond that period....and a couple of years in prison. You wheel this guy out to some Harvard lecture where 99-percent of the crowd is smarter than Manning. Manning starts to get challenged on his view of things and starts to fall apart. If you were looking for a major ‘snowflake’....this individual is ultra-fragile. Manning won’t be able to handle any criticism or challenges to his perception of things. After one appearance, Manning will go into hiding on campus for the rest of the year.

Snowden is a far better choice. He made a decision that can be debated. Is he right or wrong. If wrong was his action wrong or his intent? Was the government wrong?

But Manning is just a freak show. Nobody is saying he/she was right. In fact, the fact that he stayed in the news is his only interest. Most everybody agrees that he is a coward, a deserter, a person who endangered the other members of his unit. The fact, that he got the US government to pay for his costume change is not what most of us consider a Harvard education, but rather some National Inquirer expose. And maybe that is all Harvard is anymore, and A list of freaks entertaining Harvard undergrads.

Yep, it (Manning) is seriously under qualified for that position but in Harvard’s defense, they do know how to take care of their own. They would have filled the front rows of the pervert’s public speeches with sycophants and pointed out to the freak which participants were safe to call on during the question-answer period.

In common law it is permissible to cause harm if your purpose is to prevent or end a greater harm. Kicking in the door of a hardware store to grab a gun in order to stop a rape was the example I was taught. In Snowden’s case he kicked open the door exposing the crimes our own government was perpetrating on all of us. He took a great risk doing this and sacrificed a lot for us. He’s a hero in my book.

I noticed in the last ten minutes...they updated the story. Harvard now says it was a mistake, and pulls back the invitation.

Harvard has been in decline for several decades

The best you can say about Harvard these days is that it takes very smart people and makes them stupid.

Having very smart people doing very stupid things can be very dangerous

I agree.

I will say though, when people with a lot of potential do very dumb things, I cease to classify them as smart.

Dangerous? Yes, certainly...

The forum had this discussion about Obama.

Nobody who is smart does things to destroy his homeland, the only nation his children have known.

either that or harvard will caution the audience that ANY opposition or ridicule to bradley’s speech will be deemed a ‘hate crime’

Ex-CIA Director Resigns From Harvard Over Chelsea Manning Hire

https://www.nbcnews.com/feature/nbc-out/ex-cia-boss-resigns-harvard-after-chelsea-manning-hire-n801341

Might have had something to do with it- I’m sure his resigning and making a statement about why he resigned made harvard fear the backlash perhaps-
