The graphs that show why Bali's Mt Agung volcano could erupt at any minute, as 75,000 flee

Vehicles laden with food, masks and bedding have been dispatched to help more than 75,000 people who have fled a volcano on the tourist island of Bali, as rising magma and increased tremors fuel fears of an imminent eruption.

Mount Agung, about 75 kilometres (47 miles) from the Indonesian tourist hub of Kuta, has been rumbling since August, threatening to erupt for the first time since 1963.

"The chance that an eruption will happen is quite big. But it cannot be predicted when it will happen," Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman for the disaster mitigation agency, said.

The increased frequency of tremors shows the magma continuing to move towards the surface, with the mountain entering a "critical phase", the spokesman said.

The Indonesian Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation said there has been an increase in volcanic tremors, with a total of 564 recorded Monday.

The first chart below shows the energy created by these tremors, while the second shows the frequency of tremors, increasing dramatically since the start of September.

"graph showing the energy created by tremors"

Maybe saying "energy released by tremors would be more PC (physically correct).

This doom and gloom panic paranoia has got to stop.

They blow they blow. Aint nothing you,I or anyone else can do.

Yellowstone, for instance has had several small eruptions in the past. As to that system, it does NOT mean that there will be a super eruption at all.

I can see why the USGS has to limit access to its sensor systems. There are people on the net now that take the first chance they get to get people all worked up over these things.

We will not see a super eruption at Yellowstone during our lifetime, and if we do, it will be a global extinction event.

The Long Valley caldera is a larger concern....BY FAR.

Who’s doomin’ & gloomin’?
It’s a post, make of it what you will. If you want to believe all will be well - so be it. They call that ostrich syndrome.

Both Rainier and Yellowstone have had very abnormal quake swarms over the past few months. It’s cause enough for the press to write dozens upon dozens of write ups on it. It’s also enough for NASA to want to get involved in Yellowstone.

Mount Agung is one to be careful with for sure. The last eruption in 1963 killed 1700 and featured massive pyroclastic flows in addition to lava flows. Not saying a new eruption would be the same but there is certainly the potential of a bad one. The lava was andesitic and can accompany explosive eruptions.

“bad mumbo jumbo”

LOL...”mumbo jumbo” is what lawyers put into contracts. And it’s always bad.

Maybe you meant “bad juju”? Or maybe another silly auto-correct?

We have a volcano spewing magma here in California? I’m always the last to hear these things.

What or where is “CA”?

It is not spewing.

Long Valley. Very active and the lava appears to have intruded into the mountains around the valley. In effect, the lava is higher in those cones, than the valley floor.

Is it going to blow? Yes, someday. Same as Yellowstone. The question is, how big and for how long.

OH MY GOD! WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE! GET OUT! LEAVE YOUR HOUSES NOW!

We will all have plenty of warning before it happens.

And Yellowstone has always had swarms over its history.

And I dont believe a GD thing the press writes, nor do I believe NASA since they are a main instrument for the Gorebull warming hoax.

Here, I will give you something to worry about.

The plates in the Northwest are shifting. Matter of fact, the De Fuca plate is due. Before any super volcano happens to erupt-loooong before, that plate will slip. Last time that plate let go was 1700, and it has shaken like clockwork in history. How big? It would be safe to say in excess of a mag 8 and likely a 9. The mountains along the coastal range have humped up considerably and when it slips, it wont be pretty. A geologist friend of mine has said that through studies, historically, subduction quakes happen around the ring of fire before that plate slips..and it is within the ring of fire so..

Safe to say, in the next few years we will see a major unzipping of about 600 miles of that fault along the Northwestern shore. Its become active in the last few years, and that fault was known as the quiet fault. Nothing ever happened, it did not shake. Now it is..

In a major quake on that fault, everything west of I 5 will be damaged as far as bridges and roads go. Eugene Ore has several dams above the town, come to your own conclusions.

Now, will a quake like that cause Rainier to go? Nobody knows. But to be sure, there will be a hell of a lot of water headed for places that will get swamped if that plate lets go.

BTW, those who say that Seattle's sky scrappers will survive? They will, maybe. Because in the Japan quake, they found that their buildings took on major damage from that quake. They now only sway, but they quiver, which nobody figured. There it is if you want panic.
