Trump: NFL owners 'afraid' to take action against kneeling players
Fox News ^ | September 28,2017

President Trump, in an exclusive interview with "Fox & Friends," said that NFL owners are “afraid” to act against their players protesting the national anthem at games across the country.

“The NFL is in a box and they have to do something about it,” Trump told Fox News' Pete Hegseth, in the interview aired Thursday morning.

“I think they’re afraid of their players, if you want to know the truth,” Trump said.

In the same interview, Trump also touted the newly released Republican tax reform framework, describing the plan as the “largest reduction in terms of dollars in any plan in the history of the country.”

The president reiterated that the NFL has a wide range of rules, suggesting the league should apply new rules to those who would protest the anthem by kneeling.

“They have rules for everything—you can’t dance in the end zone, you can’t wear pink socks relative to breast cancer—they have rules for everything,” the president told Hegseth, a “Fox & Friends” weekend co-host and Fox News political analyst.

He added: “Why aren’t they honoring this country by enforcing a rule that’s been in existence for a long time?”

But he said, “I have so many friends that are owners, and they are in a box.”

Trump’s comments come after days of back-and-forth criticism with the NFL and its players for “disrespecting our country.”

Trump suggested that stadiums are “losing” fans amid the controversy. “The stadiums are losing—there are a lot of empty seats, I couldn’t even believe it,” Trump said.

Trump kicked up a firestorm over the kneeling protests last week, after criticizing NFL players for not standing for the anthem.

Imagine Wal-Mart having to choose between customers and employees. Which would win?

If the operations manual exists, and if the requirements for playing the Anthem and team behavior are there, then the commissioner only needs to do his job.

Fire goodell and hire a replacement with the honor and balls to do the job.

Or kiss the league goodbye.

Kneeling has long been a traditional means of showing submission or servitude.

To what or to whom are these players subservient?

The NFL is in real trouble. We called DIRECTV yesterday to cancel the NAtional Felon Leaugue. We were shocked at the girl on the phone that “ you aren’t the only one. “ She had cancelled 11 by 3 pm yesterday. If you are as disgusted as we are with the hypocrites at the NFL, cancel their channel.it hurts them bad.

By chiming in, he took away their out. They didn’t fire employees when it was a contract issue and legally over quick. Now that Trump suggested firing, they look like a tool of the government limiting speech - big 1st amendment questions and messy lawsuits.

I don’t think this was an accident. D’s have to support NFL and NBA flag haters for the 2018 elections - unless the leagues find a way out - and Trump took away the easiest exit.

It’s the coaches’s fault as well. I can’t imagine Vince Lombardi or Tom Landry putting up with this crap show.

The NFL is a league held hostage by its employees, 72% of whom are black and who have a social agenda far different than the public at large. Just as the OJ Simpson trial revealed a wide gulf between blacks and the society as a whole, there are major cultural differences and perceptions between blacks and the public. The same holds true for the NBA.

The owners are frightened by the employees who can destroy their business. It started in earnest when DeMaurice F. Smith became the head of the player’s union in 2009. Smith served in DOJ as Counsel to then-Deputy Attorney General Eric Holder. Smith’s ties to Obama and Holder have enabled him to become what amounts to being the community organizer of the NFL. As Executive Director, Smith has emphasized that players need to take more control of their careers, educate themselves, and be more involved in the process. The next player collective bargaining agreement will be in 2021. You can expect more demands from the players including social justice issues.

There is a price to pay when you own a business that depends overwhelming on a demographic group that has an activist social agenda. It becomes more and more difficult to separate sport from politics. Right now, the MSM and the Left are fine with that. The question will be whether the marketplace will continue to go along with the politicization of the NFL and NBA or will there be a revolt by the fans who pay the bills. The huge television contracts fuel both leagues (the revenue from actual fan attendance at the games is not that important), but the networks are dependent upon advertisers paying huge amounts of money to buy commercials.
