Judge: Black Lives Matter is a movement that can't be sued

BATON ROUGE, LA. — A federal judge has ruled that Black Lives Matter is a social movement that can't be sued over an officer's injuries during a protest following a deadly police shooting in Baton Rouge last year.

A Baton Rouge police officer sued Black Lives Matter and DeRay Mckesson, a prominent activist in the movement. But U.S. District Judge Brian Jackson ruled Thursday that Black Lives Matter is not "an entity of any sort," and like the tea party or civil rights movement, it can't be sued.

Unbelievable. They hold people responsible when kids die at rave parties.

By coincidence I just had a movement in the bathroom that can’t be sued.

Not an entity?

They don’t have a paypal account?

Or bank account?

Fictitious name filing?

Mailing address?

Website?

I read about this case a while back. When you see the details, it comes across as a ridiculous lawsuit that should have been thrown out.

One thing I learned is that there's no such organization as "Black Lives Matter" that could even be served with legal papers, except for something registered in Illinois that has nothing to do with any of the people who claim to be so-called "leaders" in the movement.

I thought “black lives matter” was just a phrase. DO “they” have an office anywhere?

That’s exactly right. Filing a lawsuit against “Black Lives Matter” is no different than filing a lawsuit against “radical Islam.”

Someone is disbursing funds to them, or they wouldn’t be out there in cities other than their home town protesting.

I’d name that entity/person in the filing.

This judge is an idiot.

If a group is carrying out illegal activity, those caught could be forced to pay a portion of the losses of anyone who was attacked. They could be forced to pay medical bills or for loss of property.

Has the name Black Lives Matter been registered? Has a LLC been formed? Does the entity have assets. Does it file returns with the IRS. Then it can be sued.

Is there a country we can move to where common sense prevails? The nutcases in the USA are totally ruining the greatest nation on earth.

What was the entity that received hundreds of millions in funding? I thought that it has been made public that BLM received such money...?

Whatever entity received all those dollars should be legally liable in a lawsuit!

Here it is, actually:

We live in insane times!

If BLM has officers, addresses, phone numbers, etc., and needs to apply for permits to demonstrate/protest, then it IS an entity, and CAN be sued.

An “attitude” or “sentiment” would not have officers, addresses, websites, etc.

It is not just a “social movement”.

What’s the difference between BLM and the Aryan Brotherhood? They were sued out of existence.

This is a correct ruling - unless there were real names to go along with the organization then there’s no legal entity to target.

If anything the officer should sue the city or the DNC for supporting and encouraging BLM. Even the NFL.
