The protest of the national anthem by NFL players took on added intensity last month when Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett was briefly detained outside a Las Vegas casino.
The player was high critical of how he was treated, blasting across social media that he was targeted “simply being a black man” and the officers used excessive force that was “unbearable.”
…this coming from a 6′ 4″ 274 lb. professional football player.
Bennett’s inflammatory words included the claim that an officer threatened to “blow my f**king head off.”
But, as is often the case of late when it comes to volatile incidents involving claims of racism, video of the incident, to include body cameras worn by officers, paint a whole other story.
Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo, head of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, said hundreds of videos were reviewed and no evidence was found that the officers directly involved with Bennett profiled him or used excessive force, Fox News reported.
And now the head of the Las Vegas police union is demanding an apology from the player.
“Now more so than ever,” said Steve Grammas, president of the Las Vegas Police Protective Association, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

FUMB. I never go to Las Vegas anymore because there are so many people like Michael Bennett there. They are moving to Las Vegas in droves because the rents there are lower than the rents in Los Angeles. Crime there is going through the roof in LV. If and when I want to be around that stuff I would go to South Central Los Angeles with the rest of Michael Bennett’s home boys.

Michael Bennett stated he thought shots were fired, and was afraid. He said he has children and wanted to get home safely. Understandable, but the police have families too, and want to get home safely. In the heat of the moment, when the police also don’t know exactly what’s going on, it is entirely understandable that they would detain someone who is running from the scene, and it is entirely understandable why some of them might have their weapons drawn. This kind of inflammatory rhetoric from people like Bennett leads to things like this:

It was a chaotic situation. The police have to control a situation. They said stay down and he got up and ran.
