Two more U.S. representatives have co-sponsored a bill that would end the U.S. Education Department by December of 2018.
Reps. Todd Rokita (R-IN) and Ralph Norman (R-SC) have added themselves as co-sponsors of the legislation introduced in February by Kentucky Republican Rep. Thomas Massie.
The bill, H.R. 899, contains only one sentence and states: The Department of Education Shall Terminate on December 31, 2018.
Neither Congress nor the President, through his appointees, has the constitutional authority to dictate how and what our children must learn, Massie said in a press release announcing the bill.
Congressman Norman believes that parents, teachers, and principals should dictate how students learn, said Jessica Cahill, Normans communications director, in a statement to Breitbart News. Education policy should be handled at the state and local level, not by 4,000 un-elected bureaucrats in Washington, D.C.
Rokita is currently chairman of the House Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education, and a candidate for the U.S. Senate seat currently occupied by vulnerable incumbent Sen. Joe Donnelly (D).

time to write my congressman.
this is a very good idea.
After this one is passed, do the same kind of one sentence bill to terminate Obamacare.
The Dept. of Education is deeply involved in the $1.2 Trillion debt bubble burden that is being heaped upon young people.
This is long, LONG overdue.
drain the swamp
all cabinet level agencies formed after 1950 shoiuld be shut down pdq
We might stand a chance of the kids in this country turning out okay if the Dept. of Ed. goes away.
Since these teachers and administrators are so politically charged they dont have the sense or decency to assign the he pronoun to males or the she pronoun to females, it is definitely time to end the political influence of Washington politics in the classroom.
I’m beginning to realize that any serious downsizing of government is not going to take place in my lifetime. If the bull we put in the china shop is hogtied by our own allies, it ain’t gonna happen.
I’m betting that if the D.O.Ed. is trashed, our nation’s yutes will not become less educated.
yea whatever. these jackasses can’t even do something NOT controversial, let alone something like this. they are just running their mouths to look good but will never pass anything conservative or less government oriented.
Ryan/McConnell will get right on it.
Great idea, but will never get traction.
Yes, yes, and yes. Administrative law must come to an end. Start here, then on to the dept of energy, commerce, blm, EPA...and every agency not authorized by the constitution. Amen.................
I like it. Wasteful bureaucracy.
Leave it to the states.
Good idea, but not holding breath.
First, send the UN out of the United States,
Then, defund Planned Parenthood.
Once THAT level of focus, courage and skill has been demonstrated to the world, then take on the Education Department.
The Labor Unions would go completely hysterically nuts.
They would out-do Antifa in mob type behavior.
Brilliant. In the 1970’s prior to the establishment of the US Department of Education, the U.S. had the #1 education system in the world. In a mere 40 years, under the direction of the USDOE, it declined to 27th and is even lower now.
AMEN
Reagan was intent on this but the Swamp shutit down
I propose that the Department of Education be down graded to a Sub-Department of the Dept. of Commerce, and all its employees take a one grade cut in pay, rank and privileges; e.g. Cabinet Office to Under Secretary, GS-15 to GS-14, and so on to GS-2 to GS-1.
This would save money, as well as put the functions of the Dept. of Ed. in their proper perspective.
Then we can take a look at the other Recently created Cabinet Level Departments, and see if they too might be better as agencies of the more traditional Departments.
