“The concept of the militia is not central to the Second Amendment. The right belongs to the people.”
Quite simply, the people who wrote the 2nd wanted to show WHY the 2nd was necessary...but understood quite well that ALL of the rights specified for special protection in the Bill of Rights (including those listed in the 2nd) existed prior to (and independent of) the government. The ONLY purpose of the 2nd is to say, loud and clear, that the RKBA is so basic of a right that the government “shall not infringe” upon it.
“didnt someone post here or did I hear today on the radio, that if you add all the people killed in mass USA shootings since 1900, it would still be less that the number of people shot in Chicago over a weekend or maybe year to date.”
Someday the left will figure out that they can get all their academics together to start changing the meanings of words in the Constitution until it retroactively means what they want. They’ll start telling us the word “religion” means playing checkers and in a couple generations the first amendment will mean protecting the free exercise of playing checkers.
NBC is grasping at straws when they trot out Brokow. Going for the nostalgia crowd?
Megyn Kelly, is she STILL ON TV??
“Though I strongly agree with what you said, I might point out that people that think its about hunting look like fools. ;)”
The people who think that the 2nd Amendment is about hunting will tell you that, “you don’t need 30 rounds to hunt.”
True, but on the other hand, the 2nd Amendment was not written in case the deer turn against us.
