Watching the Columbus Day parade with Joe Piscopo and Maria Bartiromo (looking her usual gorgeous self). They held up a book put together by the parade's grand marshal Len Riggio which includes the Constitution of the United States and the Declaration of Independence. They are giving away 20,000 copies of this book. Another parade goer was interviewed and she held up the book and said, "this is what its all about." Maria is on the screen holding up the book, complimenting it, saying "i'm reading the Constitution.". Makes this American of italian heritage proud.
Was going to go until the rain. Sorry to miss it.
Told one of my favorite restaurants in the neighborhood to enjoy their Indigenous Peoples’ Day brunch and have a nice life because I wouldn’t be back.
Celebrated that way. : )
My dad was a Correction Officer in NYC and marched in many Columbus Day parades. He played the saxophone. I’m also a goomba.
make sure they know your feelings via telephone/email/etc..
Meh! Since the real Dons died off, Columbus Day is a snoozer.
Well how special.
When is the NYC taxpayer supported parade to celebrate Swedish Americans? German Americans? Chinese Americans? African Americans? English Americans?
You get my drift.
50% of your examples already have parades.....
u r just drifting
It’s not a celebration of any ethnic group; it celebrates a man who was a pioneer in exploration of the Western Hemisphere.
At Ellis Island, there is a 3-dimensional bar graph that shows immigration through Ellis Island during the years that it was used for that. The different countries are different colors. The gigantic orange Italian column stretches maybe a full foot past the others, which are no more than an inch or two high. I myself didn’t realize this until I saw that.
People don’t realize how many of us there are, because we assimilate well and intermarry like crazy, usually to other Catholics.
The only group larger than us is the Irish. They have a bigger parade, with many coming from Ireland and spending money here. They are better Catholics (in a way) and tend to have bigger families.
The woman manager at the restaurant thought it was political on my part. I’m political, but she didn’t know that. She was just assuming. And that wasn’t why I rejected her restaurant. She never heard of Italian pride, because we usually shut up about it, unlike some other groups I can think of. But try taking the Columbus statue down and celebrating Indigenous Peoples’ Day, and you’ll suddenly know all about it.
Maybe he was the one who shouted “We do it for you!”
I’m sure she will convey it to the right people, in the form of ranting about what an intolerant person I was.
It was never about the Mob.
A man whose mission it was, in his own words, to bring Christ to people who carved the hearts out of others, practiced human sacrifice, scalped one another alive, and ate one another.
they already support Chinese NY, PR Day, and Gay pride and Irish.
