Boo! This is one of my least favorite baseball moments.

that is what Cleveland Indian fans are thinking about their collapse the other night.

Having grown up in Da Burgh in the 60’s, this game was one of great lore in my life. I’ve seen the Pirates play at Forbes Field a few times, and Three Rivers Stadium many times. Always was a fan of The Maz and that whole team, all the way through Pops leading us to the 79 series victory. I gave up on baseball during the 81 strike season. Have not missed it.

Funny now that the only active baseball player I could name for you today is Tim Tebow, who isn’t in the majors.

Of course this was prior to there being any Southern MLB teams

Yep, The Wash. Senators were it back then.

Crosby was so superstitious that he did not even want to be in the country for Game 7 so he arranged for he and his wife to fly to France just so they could miss the game and any partial scores. He instructed some Hollywood friends to set up a Kinescope of the tv screen (literally a movie film of a tv screen) to record the game so he could watch later if they won. That’s how the film of Game 7 was created and it was only discovered in the wine cellar of one of his estates as they were planning for an estate sale. Bing died in the late 70s but this wasn’t unearthed until about 10 years ago, which tells me there must have been long legal battles about dividing his property.

Some kind of Buckos! This was a popular song in Da Burgh commemorating the game.

I can understand that but lots of good guys in the bigs yet. I go to all the Clemson baseball games. Love college baseball. Kids working their tails off. Clemson has a stadium that makes a lot of minor league parks look sick. You should go to a college game. Cant beat it.

Amazing story about Crosby. That guy could sing like almost no one else. He and Hope were really funny together.

I wish nowadays they played the weekend World Series games during the day. I heard they didn’t want to go head to head with college football on Saturday and the NFL on Sunday. So that’s why all World Series games are night games.

My great grandfather played for the Pirates.

Very interesting. I notice he died very young -- age 40.

He had heart disease, it runs in the male line of our family. At almost the same age, I had to have a bypass on an emergency basis. We also almost could have been identical twins in our late twenties.

I was listening in school on my crystal radio earlier in the Series. Radio in desk, ear wire going up sleeve and into ear. The Catholic nun teacher actually brought in a little TV for game 7 and let us watch. Baseball was huge back then.

Wow. If only you had that baseball card shown on the site. Worth a fortune.

No joke. Nothing that could be sold survived one member of the family, though.

And he acted as if he has no control over the schedule.

Two words: Double Header

MLB either needs to go back to a 154 game season, or add a lot of double headers, or both. Baseball isn’t a cold weather sport.

I remember the Mazeroski home run- had to cheer for the Pirates since the Yankees were like Goliath back then.

Washington

First in war, first in peace, last in the American League.

They were my local team, alas.

Was in middle school, and obsessed with baseball.

My Little League team that summer, had been called “Pirates.”

I would agree go back to 154 games, and have double-headers.

I heard these are unlikely to happen because of the need to negotiate changes with the players union.

I think it would be ideal to play 154 games, and have the regular season run from about April 15 to about Sept 15. Then have the playoffs from about Sept 17 to about Oct 13. Get rid of off days during the playoffs and they could get those games in before bad baseball weather starts hitting most cities.

MLB will won’t do anything until early winter weather makes it impossible to complete a World Series in the home team stadiums.
