Type 1 Diabetes
She’s had type one diabetes since she was a kid in the 1960s. That’s a really long time to live with that disease and, while diabetics live a lot longer than they used to, their life expectancy is still significantly shorter than the average and they tend to develop serious health issues at a younger age than usual.

don’t get all excited. If she cuts back on flan and fried tortillas and fried ice cream and takes a long walk every day, she can stay around long enough to be more of a laughing stock.
