George H.W. Bush Apologizes to Actress After She Claims He Sexually Assaulted Her in 2014
US Magazine ^ | 10/25/2017 | Nicholas Hautman

George H.W. Bush apologized to actress Heather Lind after she claimed in a since-deleted Instagram post that he sexually assaulted her at an event in 2014.

Presidential First Children Through the Years “President Bush would never — under any circumstance — intentionally cause anyone distress, and he most sincerely apologizes if his attempt at humor offended Ms. Lind,” the former president’s spokesman Jim McGrath said in a statement to Us Weekly on Wednesday, October 25.

Lind, 34, alleged on Instagram on Tuesday, October 24, that Bush, 93, “sexually assaulted” her during a photo op at a private screening of her AMC series Turn: Washington’s Spies in Houston in 2014. “He didn’t shake my hand. He touched me from behind from his wheelchair with his wife Barbara Bush by his side,” she claimed in the caption of her post. “He told me a dirty joke. And then, all the while being photographed, touched me again. Barbara rolled her eyes as if to say ‘not again.’ His security guard told me that I shouldn’t have stood next to him for the photo.”

Stars Speak Out Against Harvey Weinstein Amid Sexual Misconduct Scandal The Demolition actress continued, “We were instructed to call him Mr. President. It seems to me a President’s power is in his or her capacity to enact positive change, actually help people, and serve as a symbol of our democracy. He relinquished that power when he used it against me. … What comforts me is that I too can use my power, which isn’t so different from a President really. I can enact positive change. I can actually help people. I can be a symbol of my democracy. I can refuse to call him President, and call out other abuses of power when I see them. I can vote for a President, in part, by the nature of his or her character, knowing that his or her political decisions must necessarily stem from that character.”

Lind concluded her post by explaining that she turned to her costars and producers for support after the alleged encounter, adding, “I do not respect [Bush].”

The accusation came after a number of women, including A-listers Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow, came forward with sexual harassment and assault claims against Harvey Weinstein. The 65-year-old producer’s spokesperson previously told Us that he denies “any allegations of non-consensual sex.”

Have you?

What constitutes sexual assault then?

Tell me.

Did she accuse him of being a man in a wheel chair next to his wife?

Or did she accuse him of something else?

"...let the threat remain for his next victim..."

You have a hilarious and dry sense of humor, my FRiend. Classic!
For a moment we thought you were serious about prosecuting a wheelchair-bound man in his mid-90s flirting with an actress.

I’m not joking, and you were correct when you thought that I am serious.

If what she said happened, then she should report it to police.

Let him explain his behavior to them. Why should he get a pass for once being president, or for being 93 in a wheelchair, or for being next to his wife?

“Still, why tell a dirty joke at some sort of event like this?”

I once told a joke in church. I did not consider it in any way obscene or dirty. About a dozen of the baptists laughed, but one person took offense. I told her I was sorry she was offended, but not sorry I told the joke. Why? Because the only way to never offend anyone while telling a joke is to never tell one at all.

US Magazine is owned by Jann Wenner (Rolling Stone), so it’s no surprise he would publish this - remember the Virginia Frat rape story that proved to be a fake and he was successfully sued for.

Nope, not a nun, never have been.

Still waiting for you to tell me what constitutes sexual assault.

The fact that you have not is telling me that either you don’t know, or you know that the answer is checkmate.

"...then she should report it to the police..."

Sometimes things are far more effectively handled with some “southern belle charm” and a wink to the wife than with having the police handcuff an old fossil.

It would be “He said, She said” - and the “He” is arguably one of the most asexual presidents in our history. Thus no case.

Add in she made no comment at the time, and could easily have taken one step sideways to evade - and did not do so, and that they were being photographed at the time, and it adds up to:

Attention seeking media whore.

Whom you are backing.

That’s a real good point, the thing is, other news sources have the same kind of cockeyed headline:

And yes, if one wants to say Newsweek etc. are no better, I agree basically with that.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/george-hw-bush-apologizes-after-sex-assault-claim/ar-AAu1qAb?OCID=ansmsnnews11

Fox News:
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/10/25/george-hw-bush-apologizes-after-sexual-assault-allegation.html

Looks like CBS (maligned here) is calling it “inappropriate touching” in the headline which is what people tend to remember:

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/actress-heather-lind-accuses-george-h-w-bush-of-inappropriate-touching/

The list goes on.

As I have been warning lately, to all men and boys, you can no longer flirt at all, ever...

You are so right...I mostly worked on large construction projects in camp settings and as an upper level manager, I would NEVER have a female employee in my office with the door closed.
If a female employee, (or an employee who identified as being female) insisted on a private discussion, I would only agree on having it in the break room or in the mess hall at dinner.
I was always aware of the potential of being accused of some manufactured claim of harassment and refused to be set up.

Why should she excuse him?

If an old fossil committed a sex crime, should he not be handcuffed?

What if he does again to someone else? What if this is a pattern of behavior with him?

What if no one ever reports him, because he is GHW Bush, and he’s grown accustomed to getting away with it... just like Weinstein has grown accustomed to it?

If he has dementia they no longer have filters. It’s really not his fault. It should not be called sexual assault in the same way. They are like toddlers and are not responsible for their actions. SOMEONE ELSE needs to be responsible for these people and keep them away from others. That person or entity is at fault. Honestly, it is extremely common for men and women. They appear to be adults but they have no frontal lobe functioning so they should no longer be held accountable at that point.

I do not know the mental condition of Bush but while I despise him, if he has severe enough dementia, I don’t hold him responsible for groping people; I hold his caregiver responsible and they should never bring him into public without precaution.

The police can interview him and her and determine if there is a case or not.

And I’m not backing him, nor am I attacking her.

I don’t know what happened or didn’t happen, however, do I believe it’s possible that he did do this? Yes.

My position is that if she asserts this is what occurred, then she should report it to the police, because such is an actual crime.
