This explanation is confirmed also in "The Story of French". I don't go for the Mason-Dixon line explanation, as the line goes through New Jersey. Also, I was born a Yankee, and I don't want to be called a Mason.

I don't think Mason and Dixon demark north and south, respectively. They were simply a joint-team of surveyors.

In fact, Dixon was from England. He went back to England and died in his home town, so he has no connection to the southern half of the line. Therefore, Mason would have no claim on the northern half.

Nope that won't work for me. I'm a Southerner and I am deeply Offended at the word "North". What the North did to my ancestors was nothing short of genocide. No state should be allowed to have that word in their name.
