None of those are needed to meet recruiting goals.

This is from a year ago:

http://www.military.com/daily-news/2016/04/01/marine-corps-may-require-higher-test-scores-get-into-boot-camp.html

Marine Corps May Require Higher Test Scores to Get into Boot Camp

Lt. Gen. Robert Walsh, deputy commandant of Marine Corps Combat Development Command, said requiring higher scores on the general technical, or GT, portion of the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery is one option under consideration as leaders work to shape the future force.

“Our infantry Marines, that GT score has been down at 85 since Vietnam. Post-Vietnam, conscript, the draft, that’s what it is. Now the Marines we’re bringing in today are much higher than that,” Walsh told Military.com following a lecture at the Center for Strategic and International Studies on Thursday.

“We’re bringing them in at higher levels, but we’re going, ‘Should we raise the bar?’ We know to be able to operate in this environment, we need to have a little bit of a higher bar, so we’re looking at that,” he said.

The drive to make the Marine Corps smarter and more senior began with the last commandant, Gen. Joseph Dunford, who told Congress last year that the demographics of the Corps needed to change to keep up with a more sophisticated, highly technical battlefield. The Corps, which is the youngest and most junior of all the military services, needed more noncommissioned officers and staff noncommissioned officers, he said.

....

Even though the Marine Corps has filled its recruiting goals for years, Walsh acknowledged that raising standards could be a tough sell for leaders in charge of making sure the Corps meets its targets.

Give a borderline bipolar transgender cutter heavy weapons
What could possibly go wrong?

If you are lucky it would only be suicide.

“The Army recently downsized by ~100,000. It makes no sense for the Army to downsize so drastically (under Obama rules) and then to turn around and start recruiting the dregs of society.”

A good chunk of the Army turns over every year. Soldiers get out or are refused re-enlistment and those positions must be filled. For officers is “up or out”. Fail to get promoted 3 times, you’re gone. A reduction in force structure eases things a bit at the lower levels, but only temporarily.

Younger people are not so hung up on a person’s sexual preference. I think what is over arching is people are sick to death of reading about constant deployments with no clear path to victory. We are not, in it to win it, and the politicos cannot explain to people the value of these mini wars and the human carnage from them. None of the current leadership work to protect the constitution, so why would anyone join a military arm ran by people actively working against our freedoms.

The U.S. Military, counsellors of last resort.

My Drill Sergeants in 1978 would "Council" your butt off.

I was just thinking of Drill Sergeant Beaton (Fort Knox) earlier today. I don't know if he's even still alive, but I owe him big time for the lifetime education he provided me.

A proper universal male draft would obviate these problems. That is, alas, no longer even possible without authoritarian rule by the NON Left. Leftists can’t do it because leftists of all gradations fear an organized military. Always did. Always will. Thus they do what they can to neutralize the military and where they have total power, try to substitute personally loyal militias that have no connection to national and cultural traditions. TSA and CIA are two such organizations. They are dangerous. CIA is the 20th Century American iteration of the Praetorian Guard and can choose the leader if they will and perhaps CIA has in the past.

Counsel. Counsel is advice. Council is a committee.

Not quite as bad as it sounds - folks can request a waiver but there has to be extensive checking of their medical records to verify that whatever blip showed up was properly treated and they came out the other end OK.

I would imagine a "lot" of them (if there really is a spate in this area) would be assigned to areas less "strenuous" and dangerous to them and those around them.

I know that there is a certain turn-over rate, but that is not why the Army is downsized. Obama cut the size of the military. I’d heard that Trump was going to build it back up.

It is not always the case that being passed over for promotion 3 Times is a career ender. I’ve known officers who were selectively continued after the third pass over.
