How did the landers and rovers get there? By walking?
Nah, they know somewhat of which they speak.
Since NASA's not quite ready to declare that a humanoid population lives or lived on Mars (see Spirit Rover images below--they clearly have a lot on their plate (lower right quadrant)), they're kind of in a holding pattern with their Greenland-based experiments.
