Damned if you do and damned if you don’t. Fact is if they had gone with a search warrant to seize the guns, it would have ended in a siege and killing the nutter.

And everyone would be all over their ass for that too.

We can either lock the nutters up with all that entails including abuse and loss of civil liberties and increasing the size of the police state or we can accept that freedom includes risk and a duty to take responsibility for defending oneself from those risks.

50-100 years ago, we routinely locked up (prison or mental wards) nuts like this. We had no problems with any loss of civil liberties or increasing the police state back then.

We clearly need to return to the values, customs, laws and traditions that we had 50-100 years ago.

You say that like it would have been a bad thing, it would be much more desirable than what actually happened. Sounds like there was ample evidence that this guy should have been 5150'd, but the police were too damn something too do their job and lives were ended and affected tragically.
