just wait for the super bowl. I plan on inviting some friends over and not watching the super bowl. maybe watch field of dreams and the rookie on the TV....make it a anti super bowl party. maybe call up the local news and see if covering it interests them.

I left the below message. I think even the most obtuse could figure out I didn’t watch the game.
When America’s fallen come from the Middle East they arrive at Dover Air Force Base in caskets covered with a star-spangled banner. When they are buried the flag is removed, elegantly folded, and given to a spouse, child, sibling, or parent.
You stand for the National Anthem. You kneel to pray for the country. Doing otherwise identifies you as feckless, arrogant, self-absorbed. Whatever cause or grievance you think you have becomes squalid and frivolous.
I remember a time when success was defined in terms of marriage, raising kids, career, etc. Now there is an alternative definition. Success means convincing others to adjust their behavior for the emotional damage people have decided to inflict upon themselves because of some apparent slight.
Success is then defined as forcing others into codependent relationships, instead of joining those who move through and around the same issues to achieve a traditional definition of success. Your association has decided to take its place to support victory for this type of mutilated relationship.
I predict the Puppy Bowl will have record ratings this season!
It is just fun.
And I expect that "I'm just passing through on my way to Australia" is going to be the response to "What are you doing?" around here at least until New Years.
Can't say you are wrong on that one. But can also look at it as rubbing it in, letting them know their spin does not fly. The later would be irritating to them I would think.

Football was already on a downward spiral before the kneelers took over.
My left-wing relatives complained about the “crazies” boycotting the NFL.
But—these relatives do have a redeeming quality—they don’t watch football—and never will!
They still make those. I just saw an add the other day.
Many years ago, my brother got one of those for Christmas. My runners always ran in circles and eventually made up their scrambled minds and ran across my opponent's goal line.
