A flat-Earther's plan to launch himself in a homemade rocket just hit a speed bump

A California man who planned to launch himself 1,800 feet high Saturday in a homemade scrap-metal rocket — in an effort to prove that Earth is flat — said he is postponing the experiment after he couldn't get permission from a federal agency to conduct it on public land.

Instead, Mike Hughes said the launch will take place sometime next week on private property, albeit still in Amboy, Calif., an unincorporated community in the Mojave Desert along historic Route 66.

“It's still happening. We're just moving it three miles down the road,” Hughes told The Washington Post on Friday. “This is what happens anytime you have to deal with any kind of government agency.”

Hughes claimed the Bureau of Land Management said he couldn't launch his rocket as planned Saturday in Amboy. He claimed the federal agency had given him verbal permission more than a year ago, pending approval from the Federal Aviation Administration.

Even the Roman Catholic Church now supports astronomical observations and discoveries

It always has.

It doesn't always agree with the conclusions of the scientist.

The curvature of the earth is clearly an optical illusion. I traveled to oasis and europe and never went over the horizon. Columbus ran into america simply because he went west and not east.

LOL Just had to add that date- even out of context— since controls over America has been non-stop since its inception-—but maybe I should have went back to Adam and Eve because God v. Man has existed since then, and that is what this culture war has always been about since power tends to corrupt. Particularly rabid since the Postmodernist/Marxist/Darwinist “God is Dead” days coming out of Germany—that Prussian “system” that Horace Mann gleefully installed in America.

“He can’t just look at the NASA channel like the rest of us?”

He probably had to cancel his cable/satellite TV subscription because he blew all of his money on that stupid rocket.

Idiot. The BLM doesn’t give verbal permission. As to his “flight” Adios Amigo, thanks for pouring a small amount of bleach in the gene pool.

I’ve never even seen half the movies Hollywood made in 1776.

Gee, should I ping this out to the Rev War list? /grin

I think that by definition it can only be awarded posthumously.

In most cases it is. But the criteria is removing one's self from the gene pool, so an injury so severe, a self-sterilization rendering one incapable of reproducing also qualifies.

Flying to 70,000 feet, James May gets to see the curvature of the Earth as he reaches the edge of space

James May Witnesses Curvature of Earth - James May: On The Moon - Brit Lab

But the curvature is also observable from commercial airliners, especially on the high altitude trans-Atlantic and trans-Pacific flights. I’ve seen it and it is beautiful.
