Grammy Awards Shocker for CBS as Top Pop Stars Ed Sheeran, Lady Gaga Snubbed, No Country Acts (tr)

Full title: Grammy Awards Shocker for CBS as Top Pop Stars Ed Sheeran, Lady Gaga Snubbed, No Country Acts in Main Cateogories

The Grammys in New York took a weird turn this morning as the nominations were a shocker: Ed Sheeran’s best selling “Divide” did not get an Album of the Year nod, neither did albums by Lady Gaga or Kesha. Instead, the Grammys went mostly for R&B and rap: Jay Z, Bruno Mars, Kendrick Lamar and Childish Gambino, who is really the actor Donald Glover. CBS must be plotzing. (I’m thrilled because I love the Childish Gambino album.)

Indeed, all the acts they want on the show– the white pop acts– have been relegated to the Pop Vocal category. That’s Gaga, Sheeran, Pink, Kelly Clarkson, Kesha.

How the Grammys became the R&B/Hip Hop Awards will be the subject of much discussion at Black Rock today. Their traditional country nominee is absent, which for CBS is a disaster. The only pop singer who scored an Album of the Year nod was Lorde, the 20 year New Zealand singer whose “Melodrama” album not much of a hit compared to her previous outing.

Kendrick Lamar, Glover, Bruno Mars and Jay Z also took up most of the Record and Song of the Year categories even though almost none of that music is not what is typically thought of for those categories. I’ll bet a lot of pop, rock and R&B stars are in shock right now. Ed Sheeran and his team must be having Xanax omelettes.

Again, for older skewing CBS and producer Ken Erlich, this will be a challenge. This is not the show they want. Having no country nominees in the main categories is heart-attack inducing.

My SiriusXM subscription is one bill I look forward to paying, because it provides me with a nearly infinite number of alternatives to the crap that passes for popular music these days.

Has there ever been an industry more determined to commit suicide than the music industry?

Actually I was thinking this would be appropriate: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1JOFhfoAD4

We got too many gangsters doing dirty deeds

Too much corruption, and crime in the streets

It's time the long arm of the law put a few more in the ground

Send 'em all to their maker and he'll settle 'em down

You can bet he'll set 'em down

the Grammys went mostly for R&B and rap

Which guarantees very few caucasian eyeballs on that night.....

In 2004 Mediamark Research Inc. estimated that closer to 60 percent of rap music consumers were white. While that’s still substantial, it’s much lower than the rumored 80 percent that has been floating around for over twenty years.

Don’t count on it. There’s enough pussy whipped caucasians, like those who voted for Hellwoman, to make the SJW advertisers happy.

We stopped watching the Oscars and these similar so called awards shows about 2 decades ago.

Advertisers take note...

Funny thing, that...

I watch a lot of MeTV and Decades. The commercials are mostly stair chairs, step-in tubs, and dialysis at home.

Then I caught a little bit of Fuse TV, and the commercial was "Make America Sober Again" addiction treatment, which is something I'd never seen before.

I don’t really care about the GraMeMeMe awards, but R&B and Country is music. Rap isn’t.

We have access to thousands of bands and artists. The programming of big labels just no longer can create a quality slate of “superstars”.

I’m not even sure who Ed Sheeran is.

Lady GaGa was the last person I’ve ever really found in the pop world to have made at least some catchy songs, and that was 10 years ago.

You may want to look again.

Rap is international. You will find a huge market in Russia, the middle east, the Balkans, and China for local and American acts.

I abandoned the Grammys before I abandoned the Oscars.

Art appreciation is in the eye of the beholder, and artists are to me the worst judges of their own.

They become critics in order to judge their fellow artists, and in doing so they become like artistic teachers eyeing every technical aspect of the artistic presentation, and then they fail to see the forest for the trees. The “best” wins on points, but most audiences anyway could care less about the points, as the whole is greater than the sum of the technical points. Add to that how they let their social, artistic and political biases get in the way and their bad judging gets even worse.

Most of my Sirius listening is channel 125. Esp like the 6-9 am Breitbart. Don’t get to hear it that much though.
