SAN DIEGO (AP) San Diego on Friday opened the first of three industrial-sized tents to house the homeless as part of the city's efforts to contain a hepatitis A outbreak stemming from the deplorable conditions people were living in on the streets.
About 20 people made their way to a bunk bed Friday in the tent that will house 350 single men and women. Two other giant tents will open later this month one for families and one for veterans. The tents will house a total of 700 people. Related Searches San Diego Hepatitis OutbreakSinkhole San DiegoEater San Diego
The city turned to tents to get people off the streets and contain a hepatitis A outbreak that has killed 20 people in the past year, marking the worst epidemic of its kind in the US in 20 years. The virus lives in feces.

If'd known it was going to turn into a turd-world sh!thole I wouldn't have bothered cruising down to Mexico as often.
They managed to turn “America’s Finest City” into just another Leftist-run ****-hole.
San Diego, once a conservative paradise, began to die in the late ‘70’s. I left in ‘77 and am never going back.
I was there about 10 years ago for a corporate event my wife was attending. We were staying at the U.S. Grant Hotel in the Gaslamp Quarter, which for those not familiar, is a historic class A hotel in a prime location in a historic area that is a key restaurant and entertainment area for tourists and locals alike.
I was shocked at all the homeless who had more or less taken over various small parks in this high-profile area. It was at the level of Seattle, which is pretty bad as well.
I am unsurprised they are having a problem with disease associated with this crowd.
This is yet more fallout from the inability and unwillingness of our society to institutionalize the drug- and alcohol-addicted mentally ill.
Oh, and further, from the picture caption at the source link:
“The first of three shelters opened Friday, which will eventually provide beds for up to 700 people, as the city struggles to control a homeless crisis gripping the region.”
A homeless problem requiring tents with bunks for 700 didn’t spring up overnight. It didn’t spring up in one year. It has been ongoing for a long time, but it’s suddenly a crisis because we have a Republican President. Expect to see more articles on the homeless regularly in your local Pravda.
Know what you mean.
It was still a pretty nice place even twenty years ago (compared to SF or Seattle) but I had some time to kill about ten years ago and spent an afternoon there to visit the old haunts. Lasted about an hour and left. It’d become pretty disgusting.
I live in Colorado and went up to Denver yesterday for the first time in several years. Same thing. Homeless/beggars all over the place and I wasn’t anywhere near downtown.
What makes demonrat-run cities such cesspools?
Reminds me of all the hepatitis outbreaks there were when I was growing up in NJ in the 60’s... /sarc
Massing the homeless may control hep-A, but increase hep-B and hep-C, which are viral rather than bacterial.
Whoops, all are viral, my bad. But A seems to be sanitation dependent, while B and C are associated with bodily fluids (sex, drugs).
If there are no tents set up and homeless die of hepatitis or life becomes very hard, the homeless will migrate north.
By doing nothing, the problem will sort its self out.
The tent and 700 beds exacerbate the problem
Once a year I catch a connecting flight in the Denver airport. The airport has that "third world" feeling and appearance as well. Looks like a 1970's bus terminal.
A tent for 350 single men and women - what could possibly go wrong?
A prostitution ring within a week and big spike in STDs, to make them forget about the Hep A...
The Bible has a cure for this problem: “If any would not work, neither shall he eat.” (2 Thessalonians 3:10). Idleness among the able is a sin.
Giant? Hardly. It's a small tent that only contains hepatitis for about 350.
Why don't they have a really giant tent to cover all of San Diego, and contain hepatitis for the entire city?
Have you seen the tent? They are bunk beds 3 feet apart. That won’t help containing any disease. The contractor got 6.5 MILLION for puttying it up.
Wonder how much went for legal fees, zoning permits, etc. IOW, right back at the suits who approved it.
If you have an explosion in the feral cat population, you don't set out saucers of milk and cans of tuna.
Wow, $6.5 mil? Contractor could make out like a bandit if they get the whole-city tent coverage contract!
Drug, alcohol, and mental illness are the by-products of homelessness. The root cause is local governments pricing housing out of the market with rent control laws, strict building codes, Section 8, and so-called “rights” for tenants.
need to hand out flyers telling the homeless that san francisco gives each person $400 a month and lets them sleep and crap where they want....help that northern migration
looks like jail - most will feel at home
