I was quite comfortable in my camper during the North Dakota winters.
-30 degrees
I'll admit to being surprised at the number of Airstream trailers used for squatting. Use "holess RV Calif doe a search sting to get an idea of just how bad this has become./
...were taking off and visiting the world

If you blog your journey, I would love to read about your adventures.
What kind of sailboat did you get?
I dont have any problems with this at all.

I wouldn’t have a problem if your RV was parked on my street because I trust that you would be responsible about your dump tank. These homeless people — not so much.
Wow!!! I guess that gives a whole new meaning to “trailer trash”. Sometimes people need to be permitted to experience enough pain to force them to do something about it.
Someone wise once said that people get the government they deserve. I don’t know that it’s always true, but it is often enough.
In my Orange County city it is illegal to sleep overnight in vehicles, but the police put little emphasis on enforcing the law.
Same applies to more and more laws, since the states’ voters have made penalties smaller and smaller.
Why stop to hassle somebody for weed, if it is merely a paper citation, which the homeless person will laugh about, tear up, etc. Fake name given.
And if sent to jail, out soon with early release.
Nuttin matters anymore. Least of all protecting the law abiding, tax paying residents.
They are indeed lining the street. Where were those pictures taken?
So much of L.A. is a shithole. I feel bad for folks who have to live there to work.
I rented an older 2 bedroom house in Long Beach for $100 per month. Its likely been demolished by now, I suppose.
Even more amazing (to me) the house my mom grew up in in NJ (1922) still looks the same as when she was a girl.
Look at the New World becoming the Third World.
Gonzo Gates lived in one that was parked in a hospital parking lot.
I liked Trapper John MD.

There are many houses in the Boston area that look the same for the past 100 years.
Well kept and now very pricey.

Instead of kowtowing to the dysfunctional substance abusers wrecking downtown areas all over, these cities would do well to redirect any aid money or funding to set up legal arrangements for people who are just trying to survive and are taking responsibility for themselves the best they can. How may huge parking lots are empty all night long? How much would a small fleet of trucks to pump out their holding tanks cost? Not nearly so much as what they’re spending on homeless shelters, crime committed by homeless, lost tourism and convention dollars, etcetera. I’m sure this would end up causing more of the problem but every single “solution” to any problem such as this is a de facto subsidy, so picking and choosing the least offensive outcome is in order, and helping these people so they’re not lining the streets and dumping their holding tanks into storm drains or worse yet on the ground is a step forward that would actually make their cities more pleasant for their residents, rather than encouraging meth heads to camp out and poop on sidewalks, harassing anyone passing by.
Why do you find that amazing?
I was referring to wood frame houses also.
My father was born in 1904——the house in which he was born, still in the family, was finally sold to an outsider 3 months ago,for $9,000,000.00.
It is a 2 family house and looks the same as it always did.

Older (but not “vintage”) Airstreams in serviceable condition are not really all that expensive and they’re well-constructed, far less prone to leaks and the problems. Plus, they’re sort of trendy so living out of a camper doesn’t have to seem quite as lowbrow as it might be. Many of these people would be quite well paid and able to afford a very nice home elsewhere in the country, so they’re not poor per se, it’s just that a million dollar shotgun shack is out of reach for them.
I was hearing about another DIY solution for high rents - buy a “container house” (one made of shipping containers). Not too pretty but they can be built for far less than a regular house. I’m told they are available at Amazon.
