Supreme Court allows full enforcement of Trump travel ban
AP News ^ | December 2017 | Mark Sherman

The Supreme Court is allowing the Trump administration to fully enforce a ban on travel to the United States by residents of six mostly Muslim countries.

The justices, with two dissenting votes, said Monday that the policy can take full effect even as legal challenges against it make their way through the courts. The action suggests the high court could uphold the latest version of the ban that Trump announced in September.

The ban applies to travelers from Chad, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria and Yemen. Lower courts had said people from those nations with a claim of a “bona fide” relationship with someone in the United States could not be kept out of the country. Grandparents, cousins and other relatives were among those courts said could not be excluded.

Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sonia Sotomayor would have left the lower court orders in place.

The San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Virginia, will be holding arguments on the legality of the ban this week.

Both courts are dealing with the issue on an accelerated basis, and the Supreme Court noted it expects those courts to reach decisions “with appropriate dispatch.”

Quick resolution by appellate courts would allow the Supreme Court to hear and decide the issue this term, by the end of June.

Ruthie has one foot on a banana peel and the other in her grave. . . . Sotomayor reportedly has some form of cancer.

This is where I cut off all of the non-Trumpers at the knees! Any vote for ANYONE ELSE would have handed the US Supreme Court (and the lower courts) to the LEFT for a generation plus! Ginsburg is a short-timer and so, probably is Kennedy while Sotomayor is a question mark. Add the Scalia replacement of Neil Gorsuch and that is 3-4 probable/possible changes in Trump's first term. Any other vote for POTUS would have been a cut-your-own-throat madness!

Post 57 translates as follows:

We’re putting a hold on the Hawaii judge’s order until such time as the 9th Circuit decides the case, and (if the US decides to appeal the decision of the 9th), we either decide the case or we decide not to hear the case.

GAVEL SMACKDOWN!

Not tired of winning yet.

Do wish we could get some 2A action in SCOTUS, though.

“Should be 57 Muslim countries.”

Yes, you know they will just revise their paperwork and enter through other more ‘moderate’ muzzie countries.

“President Trump should send the military into California and arrest Governor Moonbeam”

Agreed. There’s a lot of corrupt judges that need to be arrested, too.

Finally. I can't wait for all the liberal’s heads to start popping, like in the ending of the Kingsmen movie.

It will be a really bad headache for the liberals when they realize that Trump was right after all.

“Yeah, I’m kind of in favor of letting the corrupt lower courts run roughshod over the Constitution. Destroying what’s left of our constitutional republic /s”

So your solution to that is to let those corrupt courts initiate cases on their own? How does that protect the Constitution? My preference is to keep the entity that decides the case separate from the entity that brings the complaint.

Sorry, I’m not one of those court watchers that jerk off to lawyerese gobbledygook. I’m a big picture kind of guy.

My solution is to try and hang everyone of these rogue judges for high treason. How bout that?

With or without due process?

Given that the Supreme Court just made a ruling, these cases should be dropped about 2 minutes after court convenes.

Actually, given the Courts ruling against Arizona a few years ago that says foreign policy is made by the feds, these cases should've been dismissed long ago.

We’re in a post-constitutional period. Due process is in the eye of the beholder.

Huh? The USSC is going to leave it up to them?

It’s an interesting situation. SCOTUS has already signaled that it thinks the government has a strong enough case that the lower court’s ruling should be put on hold, which probably leaves us stuck between judicial ideology and the judges’ customary dislike of being reversed. I think they’ll apply a more stringent standard than they would have otherwise. It’s up to the Feds to make an argument they can hang their hats on without losing their invitation to the ACLU holiday party.

Yep. The case wasn’t brought to them, just a request to suspend the order prohibiting Trump from acting.

Liberals tie up the court system with worthless challenges that i think exist mostly to inhibit Trump’s ability to govern.

This without doubt President Trump’s greatest and most lasting gift to this country!
Taken to the ends that appear to be quite likely, President Trump will leave us with a Strict Constructionist SCOTUS for at least 20, an possibly 30 years.
