You actually just gave the precise reason that they have to impeach him, even if it means large numbers of both Republicans and Democrats have to fall on their political sword (and collect a 7-figure do-nothing job, in return). The left (the Democrats, and ~75% of the national Republican party) are not acting out of confidence. Precisely the opposite, they are acting out of desperation. They are facing an existential crisis, and they know it, and they know that their only hope is to destroy Trump.
