It is much, much, MUCH easier to ban sales of certain types of firearms (and that’s iffy in terms of enforcement) than it is to confiscate what are already in private hands.

CA, MA, CT, NY, NJ, HI, & MD are the bluest of the blue states and have passed ex post facto assault weapons bans (making illegal what had been legal). These laws have been flouted by the vast majority of semi-auto owners in those states, even where firearms owner ID cards are mandatory.

Four starred senior state cops have huffed & puffed on TV “Don’t make me send out my boys to knock on doors!” and then walked back their threats. Ominous letters have been sent to owners & then it’s “Letter? What letter?” from the powers that be.

Ultraliberal Hawaii sent letters to thirty (30!) medical marijuana card holders ordering them to turn in their guns within 30 days. Now, that order “is under review”.

The definition of stupid legislation is passing laws that no one will obey and that no one wants to have to enforce.

NCIS gun buyer checks continue to break records. The culture war against liberty didn’t end with the retirement of Obama. Distrust of government minions & their intentions is real and for the citizen, means backing up his/her freedom by means of arms, just as the Founders intended.

I foresee lots of tragic boating accidents in those blue states should they get really serious about confiscation.

They don’t say how because it would be too much at once. What they want is Australian style total confiscation. You can’t reason with antiguners because their position is not based on reason or logic. You can’t bargain with them because they have nothing to offer, and if a bargain is foolishly struck with them they immediately try and get rid of the “loopholes” that were part of the deal. They have no sympathy for another point of view and the never stop, ever. The only three endgames are: total confiscation from everyone who is not a government agent (their desired outcome and welcome to a police state that makes the old Soviet Union look like a bastion of freedom) or they kill enough of us for “resisting arrest” so that they win or we kill enough of them and their jackbooted thugs so as to postpone the problem for a generation.

Why do you think so many police departments snapped up MRAPS? They are instruments to control an armed civilian population. They see a conflict coming where a certain fraction of the population is not going to meekly hand in their guns and they want the advantage because the police are sure not going to defend the bill of rights. (Think self forging projectiles if you think that MRAPS are too tough for citizens)

... For Del. Kathleen Murphy, who represents parts of two Northern Virginia counties, gun control is personal.

Her brother was shot to death during a robbery, and she doesn’t want another family to go through what hers did. She plans to reintroduce a bill that would make a second conviction for domestic abuse a felony, making those convicted unable to own guns. It’s the type of common sense measure that has failed before but might have a chance this year, she said. ...

Maybe Kathleen Murphy should focus on tougher penalties for armed robbery, you know, because it's personal?

Well as they said "keep your powder dry" - it's interesting to me since I'm an FFDO (federal flight deck officer ) to go to places like Chicago, NYC carrying (but not outside the terminal security area) but just to have it with me there it's a snub to them.

As for Australia, those guns that were turned in were junk. You had better believe that there as some good ones held back.

I’m leaving Virginia before they get to registration.

I was stationed here in Virginia back in 1992 and retired here because of my job. I have always intended to return to my home state and it is convenient that my wife can retire in two years so we will be gone before the DemComs (Democrat/Communists) can completely take over.
