PETER HITCHENS: If a saintly man can be branded a sex abuser, none of us is safe
DailyMail.com ^ | 12/16/2017 | Peter Hitchens

If we won't fight injustice wherever we see it, then we are not safe from suffering injustice ourselves. If a man's reputation can be destroyed in an afternoon by a secret kangaroo court, then we too can one day be propelled into a pit by everlasting shame by the same process.

If it can happen to anyone, it can happen to you. And it does happen. Accusations of long-ago sexual crime have become a sort of industry in this country. People are so horrified by them that they almost always believe them.

Because the crime is so foul, we stop thinking. To their shame, police and prosecutors use our horror to get easy convictions, when they know that their cases are weak. The less actual evidence they have, the more they stress the disgusting nature of the alleged crime. And they forget to remind us it is alleged, not proved.

Equally shamefully, judges do not stop these trials and juries leave their brains at the door. They convict not because they are sure the case has been proved beyond reasonable doubt, but because they are angry and revolted.

I am miserably sure there are disturbing numbers of people in British prisons now, prosecuted on such charges, who are innocent of the accusations against them. It is our fault, because we have forgotten what justice is supposed to be like, and that, if we do not guard it in our hearts, it will perish in the country.

This is why I have spent a shockingly large part of my life in the past two years trying to rescue the reputation of a dead bishop, George Bell of Chichester. I had known of him for many years and thought him a man of saintly courage.....

Its been a nearly decade long season of sex abuse allegations, real and fabricated in the UK, some against dead people.

It all began with ghastly revelations about a popular entertainer after his death.

Jimmy Savile was a very popular BBC radio and TV host who committed serial acts of sexual abuse against children.

Peter Hitchens explains the case of a deceased Church of England bishop falsely accused of sexual abuse.

In light of what's going on in this country and what was being said about Roy Moore in recent weeks, a very timely column from Peter Hitchens.

Don’t you know, what’s important is not the nature of the evidence but the seriousness of the charges.

Who are we to stand in the way of the left’s dreams of a utopia by insisting that they actually prove the alleged acts of misconduct that they use to destroy people who do not share their vision of totalitarian paradise?

If a Saintly Mother Theresa of Calcutta can be branded by Hitchens as one of the worst hypocrites in history, I’m not interested in whatever else he has to say.

Every charge reported to date in the US has been thoroughly researched......and has been reinforced:

<><> by corroboration——the victim tells friends and family.

<><> by the harrasser using the same MO.....Conyers in shorts, Lauer’s secret door-lock button, etc.

<><> by saved printed or electronic communications detailing the abuse.

<><> by reporting the incident to an outside source.....a superior, H/R, the police, etc.

Yes, some victims were harrassed years ago....but remember that’s when Hillary was trying to save her precious political ambitions after Willy go lewinskied.

Hilary setup a Bimbo Eruption Team with our tax dollars in the West Wing of the WH.

Women daring to accuse her husband were considered bimbos, loony tunes, trailer trash, sluts, and whores.

Who would want to report abuse under those conditions with the entire US govt arrayed against them?

Wrong Hitchens. That was Christopher. Peter is his Christian brother.

Peter Hitchens never attacked Mother Theresa. His late brother, Christopher Hitchens, did.

After thirty plus years in military contracting, one day I was summoned to the “Ethics Officer’s Office” and informed I would be fired for sexual harassment. This was a surprise to me and to the woman who I had supposedly harassed. I was “convicted” by a “secret tribunal” of HR experts, none of whom were at my facility. They only took evidence from the accuser, who I was not allowed to meet or question and I was not allowed to give evidence or address the tribunal. The, at the time, unpublished policy said, “If an uninvolved third party perceives an exchange as harassment, then, by definition, it is.”

To make a long story shorter, I emailed the company’s lawyers and presented them with a can of worms. Also, the “Ethics Officer” was performing an HR function with no HR credentials and the HR manager was really in a huff about it, so he and the lawyers prevented me from being fired. I did, however, after thirty years of sterling service, have a letter in my file which it took a year to expunge.

I pointed out that the company was following a time-tested legal model called The Inquisition. I pointed out all the parallels.

Frankly, I am relieved I no longer have to put up with the insanity that my workaday world had become. People were afraid to have their conversations overheard and we hardly talked to people we hadn’t known for good long time, as it was too dangerous. Any lower level black could get any lower level white fired simply by calling racism. It was ridiculous.

If dead people can vote, why can’t they commit sexual abuse?

“The less actual evidence they have, the more they stress the disgusting nature of the alleged crime.”

The precise strategy used by Sean Hannity as he constantly knifed Judge Moore.

important is not the nature of the evidence but the seriousness of the charges.

And the fact that making the charge itself is now seen as an act of virtue.

And every loser looking for affirmation from society can suddenly get it with this shtick. A floozy who flops on her back with her legs spread at the slightest whiff of alcohol is now a "woman of courage" for making an accusation.

Eww. It reminds me of the movie “The Lives of Others”. What a world it is that is run by enormous government bureaucracies, AKA The Swamp. A third party spying on employees and reporting to authorities who set up a secret tribunal with the power to fire the accused, who has no right of defense. How long before this kangaroo court will be given the authority to imprison the convicted offender?

Remember the child abuse hysteria of the early 1980’s? People were railroaded and served long - over 20 years in the Fells Acre case - prison sentences for crimes that did not occur.

And “victims’” families got hefty settlements and no politician has had the courage to rectify the wrongs.

“How long before this kangaroo court will be given the authority to imprison the convicted offender?”

Answering a question at a employee meeting, the HR manager said, in earnest, as in he wasn’t kidding, “For that violation you can be ‘sentenced’ to a week long diversity training program.” Everybody knew that would never happen as the cost of sending an employee offsite at the time was $1,000 per day plus the cost of whatever they were doing. So, anybody who could be thus “sentenced” would, instead, be laid off or fired. (Unless they were somebody important enough not to lose, but with no political connections that would immunize them from any such considerations in the first place.)

And the tribunals were comprised of blacks I suspect. They are indoctrinated into the race of professional victims and play that card incessantly. I experienced it somewhat in the USAF over 40 years ago. I avoid blacks and females at work at all costs because of the environment set up by the female and black professional victims. I am retiring in the near future and can’t wait to get away from them.

This reminds me of when the gay boys went after my mother’s hero, Dr. Tom Dooley, smearing him as a pedo. I swear it contributed to my mother’s final illness. As soon as the gay boys see a handsome, upstanding fellow, they try to turn him into either a gay icon or a gay devil. Evil stalks the land these days.
