Trump firmly rejected a demand from Democrats that he provide amnesty to illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children with no strings attached Says they must fund his border wall and end chain migration or no deal President golfed earlier this week with Sen. David Perdue, co-author of the Senate bill that would shift the U.S. to a skill's-based visa system President Donald Trump firmly rejected a demand from Democrats that he provide amnesty to illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children with no strings attached to the legislation.

Trump said Friday that he will not approve the Dream Act until Democrats agree to fund his border wall and support an overhaul of the federal immigration system.

'The Democrats have been told, and fully understand, that there can be no DACA without the desperately needed WALL at the Southern Border and an END to the horrible Chain Migration & ridiculous Lottery System of Immigration etc. We must protect our Country at all cost!' Trump tweeted.

A law which prevents US born children of immigrants from voting would be almost immediately stuck down by the courts. Anyone born on American soil is instantly a citizen per the 14th Amendment, the right of ciizens to vote cannot be denied or abridged per the 15th Amendment.

My take is that he did that on purpose. He is saying he’ll work with democrats to get wall funding because he knows the republicans will oppose it

Was Obama a “dictator”? He implemented DACA and a whole lot more over the heads of Congess-—— Trump doesn’t need to be a dictator to STOP DACA, all he has to do is NOTHING! It is and illegal order that is EXPIRING, there is NO LAW called DACA-—— it’s all Obama shuck n jive to flood this country with a permanent Democrat majority. The law for the WALL was passed by Congress a couple of administrations ago——where is it? Chain migration is just bullshit policy, and Trump could put a stop to it tomorrow. If he wants another term he’d better stand firm on these core principles.

When did dual citizenship even become legal? When you become a naturalized citizen you swear to give up alliegance to any other country.

That is not the complete statement of the 14th amendment. There are exceptions.

I like Trump but there should be no amnesty period. We have done this before. Part of the reason we have such a racial & cultural divide in this nation has to do with amnesties. Any more amnesties will just exacerbate this.

I could not agree more.

Like Freee-dame, I just remember him saying he wanted to be nice, fair, etc to the kids that came here, yada yada. I hated that he said it, but everything else he said was great.

Dual citizenship was ruled on by the Supreme Court in Kawakita v. US (1952) and Schneider v. Rusk (1964).

And while the oath does ask you to give up allegiances, it has never been interpreted or enforced to mean renunciation of citizenship.

I know he played the middle on this and anyone would have a heart for children when parents bring them in illegally and use them as a poker chip in the game of illegal immigration. Any normal human would feel sympathy. However he is supposed to be a President if laws (along with Congress of course) however I wished he’d stuck to his guns Day 1 and signed the order as promised. I felt and still feel when he started stepping back from it shortly before and after inauguration we’d been hoodwinked (only on this issue)

The only exceptions were Native Americans, hence the line ‘subject to the jurisdiction therof.’ Since the Indian Citizenship Act of 1924 there are no exceptions.

The text:

All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside.

“And subject to the jurisdiction thereof” is the interpretable part. I do not think that children of foreign diplomats born here are granted citizenship.

I guess I’m not normal because I feel no sympathy at all. If a father robbed a bank, his children wouldn’t get to keep the proceeds. If they were honest they wouldn’t expect to.

I escaped Mexifornia. I knew many so-called dreamers. They are not Americans nor do they want to be. They speak the language of their home country and have all the customs of it. They have nothing but disdain for this country and no gratitude whatsoever. They have taken the place of Americans in our colleges, taken free handouts meant for Americans, and major in worthless things like Hispanic studies. And then they whine and complain if they actually get a job and end up paying taxes! It truly is that unbelievable.
