From calling the phone number, this little guy is with the family that found him and they are going to keep him if no one claims him. He is going to be well cared for and very comfortable which is all we ask.

“She’s the biggest pain and just a lot of work.
. . . We just work with her every day, grin and bear it, and hope that as she gets a little older it gets easier.”

Hold that thought. If she is a large breed it takes at least 2 years for maturity to begin. Or, if she is a Jack Russell, you are in for it. Just kidding.

It takes some dogs a long time to get out of puppyhood, Labs spring to mind. They can be difficult puppies. Couldn’t ask for a better dog as an adult, but puppies from hell, and it can last up to three years old. Then, some dogs are just hard-headed. Hounds spring to mind. Very loving, very affectionate but unless they’re really interested (i.e. hunting or food) they’re just not all that prone to listening to you.

Treeing Walker. George Washington had one, a girl, loved her dearly. Her name was Sweet Lips.

I had one that I’d rescued myself, up to this year. She loved me with all her heart. Hard-headed though, would wander off if she was on a scent, no fence could contain her either. Good natured about it when I finally caught her, no attempt to run off, sort of a nonchalant “oh hai what are you doing out here I’m a-huntin” kind of an attitude. I miss her, she developed cancer and it progressed very rapidly.

Thanks! Not familiar with the breed-other than to see 3 of them all the time in the truck of a neighbor who varmint hunts-he makes vests and stuff from the pelts-nice stuff, too expensive for me, though-so I googled it-and yes, that is the same dog that hunter neighbor has and that my friend adopted-looks like a big beagle-my friend’s weighs about 60-65 lbs-and he’s never off leash outside-she has one of those long retractable leads like I had for my Husky girl-freedom without the danger-the shelter staff told my neighbor that is probably how that hound got lost in the 1st place-went off chasing something and got too far away.

I’m sorry you lost your companion-my much loved Husky girl is still greatly missed after almost 2 years...

Thanks for that update!

There is no such thing as a calm beagle. They may get exhausted and sleep it off but they are never calm. I’ve had beagles all my life. They are great hounds most always full of zest for life.

So sad. Someone should be found and beaten to a pulp.

I have had a different experience than you. I have owned many Beagles, and I had very calm dogs. They were loving, great with children, intelligent, and had an outstanding temperment.

She’s a mixed breed, about 40 lbs. no clue what she is really but we think she has some German Shepherd in her and definitely Bazenji. She loves to run. I have a bike leash and run her. She loves it. I can run her 5 miles and when we get back she still doesn’t lay down.

We’re not sure what she is. She’s a mix so ?? Lol. I just know she’s the biggest pain in the butt we’ve ever had. She’s very loving she just is determined to not do anything she doesn’t want to. We’ve been through training. She knows all the commands but chooses not to follow them. Lol. And she’s so hyperactive you can’t tire her out. I run her with my bike and she loves it but it doesn’t tire her. She doesn’t sleep. You know like a normal dog will just lay down and nap. Not her. She doesn’t sleep unless I put her in her crate (never had to crate a dog before either) and cover it up. She’s on a schedule like a baby. Nap time about 11-1 everyday and then bedtime at 8. I sure hope she grows out of all of it because we will keep her regardless. No one else would put up with her.

She is still a youngster, I bet she will end up being one of the best dogs you have ever had. To be able to run her with a bike leash, she has to be well behaved. A 40 lb dog could pull you off balance easily. I am sure you will give her plenty of time to mature.

My own dogs are not perfect but we get along well.

Cheers, Tomato Lover
