Oregonians lose it when they realize they might have to start pumping their own gas

Of all the new laws going into effect Monday (legal cannabis in California, higher minimum wages in several states, and many more), you may be surprised about which one drew the most backlash online. It appears to be Oregon House Bill 2482, which allows people who live in counties with 40,000 residents or less to pump their own gas.

Oregonians aired their frustrations on Facebook over the new law. And just about everyone else in the country made fun of them.

New California laws going into effect in 2018 New era opens in California with first sales of recreational marijuana "I don't even know HOW to pump gas and I am 62, native Oregonian.....I say NO THANKS!" said Sandy Franklin on Facebook, in response to a post by local news station KTVL that asked for viewers' opinions on the new law.

The law does not state you have to pump your gas. It says you are allowed to pump your own gas.

Exactly. That's what makes all this that much more hilarious.

There was a picture of a black guy pumping his gas; pistol strapped to his side in Chicago’s South Side.

I don’t blame him. Good for him. He knew just how bad it was.

The amount of people claiming all the jobs that would be lost in Oregon and even “people will be blowing themselves up because they don’t know how to pump gas” claims.

Some of us here remember when "self service" was implemented in the vast majority of States ... Same nonsense was puked up in EVERY State.

Guess what? We didn't blow ourselves up ...

Funny how it works that way.

Big gas stations used to give out green stamps and some would give you gifts like balloons for the kids or a drinking glass.

Or an inflatable green dinosaur!

Wonder how much gas costs in Oregon? I can’t believe the station owners aren’t passing the costs of full service attendants on to customers.

The first time I drove through Oregon and stopped for gas I just assumed there was a gas pumper’s union affiliated AFSME.

Next, we should push for a law that residents of both coasts have to fix their own cars and grow their own food. This would keep them so busy, they wouldn’t have time to meddle in our business.

Watch Goober do it in May-berry, it’s not hard. Even Barney could do it.

Initially I would think they would start out with self serve and full serve, right?

That's what the rest of us did in the ... what ... late '70s was it?

Wow! Good thing these nitwits weren’t driving when I started driving. I had to crank the pump handle at the Jenny gas station to fill up...and I was only 11-years old.

I grew up in NJ and never pumped gas until I took my car with me to college my sophomore year. I’ll never forget pulling into a gas station and realizing I had no idea what to do. I stood there perplexed until some nice man showed me how to do it.

If you aren’t capable of pumping your own gas, then I doubt that you’re capable of wiping your ***.

If you aren't capable of pumping your own gas, then I doubt that you're capable of ... ummmm ... satisfying your wife.

“Or an inflatable green dinosaur!”

Our dad was always take in a new big gas station opening back in the day, the whole family would pile in the car to go. They really big openings often even had searchlights going at night, such great memories!

I purposely avoid buying gas in states prohibiting self serve because I don’t want to wait around for and engage with another human to get such a simple task done.

I particularly dislike mandatory valet parking...
