Colorados top federal prosecutor said his office wont alter its approach to enforcing marijuana crimes after U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions withdrew a policy Thursday that allowed pot markets to emerge in states that legalized the drug.
The statement by U.S. Attorney Bob Troyer came amid bipartisan outrage over Sessions decision to end the so-called Cole memorandum, which sharply limited what charges prosecutors could pursue in legal pot states. He will allow federal prosecutors to decide how aggressively to enforce longstanding federal law banning pot.
Troyer said his office will continue to focus on identifying and prosecuting those who create the greatest safety threats to our communities around the state. That approach is consistent with Sessions guidance, he said.
Today the Attorney General rescinded the Cole Memo on marijuana prosecutions, and directed that federal marijuana prosecution decisions be governed by the same principles that have long governed all of our prosecution decisions, Troyer said. [...]

I have a bad feeling about this.
Good on him.
Yes. Jeff just F’d Trump over royally.
Colorado’s Senator just said he will block every one of Trump’s or DOJs nominations.
Jeff just went from bad to worse.
Sessions is such a disappointment.
Hopefully this DA is true to his word & Congress finally wakes up amends or repeals that infernal Controlled Substances Act.
He should be immediately replaced. And the feds should scrutinize banks involved in illegal drug profits, seize the assets. Locally legal, yes, but profitable, no. Past time to push back on the who pot industry and shut it down.
It’s going to be a lose/lose.
PISS OFF a huge percentage of the millennials and independent voters, and not make a damn bit of difference except delay what a majority of Americans are OK with, reduce the amount of tax money that the fedgov could be getting, further trample on the Constitution and take Session’s time away from stuff that matters.
So dumb it seems like it must be a last ‘swamp creature’ grenade the AG hurled before he gets his butt canned.
state’s rights, period.

Sessions is a disappointment yes, but if he can push back on the proliferation of drugs in the US, that is a very good, redeemable thing. Now, if he’d just stay awake long enough to get a few special prosecutors appointed—one to investigate the past DOJ/FBI activities, two to investigate the Clintons, and three leaks. Maybe the best thing he could do is order the immediate cooperation and release of congressionally-requested documents. Sunshine, transparency.
Can someone explain why we needed a constitutional amendment to ban one drug(ethyl alcohol) but we didn’t need one to ban another drug (delta-g-tetrahydrocannabinol), otherwise known as weed?
So either change the law or fire this US Attorney.
It is a federal crime to own/grow marijuana. Obama era EOs and regulations ignoring laws on the books (like immigration) is not the way to run a country. What happens when another state wants to ignore gun laws? Environmental laws? Tax laws? Etc. CHANGE THE LAW and don’t blame those whose job it is to ENFORCE the law.
“Sessions is such a disappointment.”
Sessions doesn’t just step on his d!ck, he tramples it to death!
This is a STOOPID mistake by Sessions!
It is so plainly obvious that constitutionally this is a STATE matter!
No one can explain that!
Trump needs to fire Sessions first thing tomorrow morning.
I worked for years in a big city ER.This experience qualifies me to declare your suggestion as absolutely bonkers!!!!
That is an excellent question, I have never thought about before..
So if fedgov trampled the Second Amendment, would you bend over as easily as you just bent over for a trampling of the Tenth?
